Job Summary
The Manager of Tax will lead U.S. tax provision, compliance, and planning at a fast-growing, private equity-backed renewable energy platform. This role partners with cross-functional teams to drive tax-efficient outcomes in a capital-intensive, project-based environment.
Responsibilities
- Prepares quarterly and annual income tax provision and related disclosures in accordance with ASC 740
- Manages tax accounts, reconciliations, and provision-to-return adjustments
- Oversees federal, state, and local tax compliance processes and external providers
- Ensures timely filings and manages tax calendars across jurisdictions
- Exposure to tax structuring and modeling considerations, including ITC/PTC
- Partners with internal teams and advisors on tax equity structures, including coordination with external advisors and internal stakeholders
- Analyzes fixed assets and depreciation (MACRS, bonus) for large-scale projects
- Supports project lifecycle activities including placed-in-service and credit qualification
- Aids in transaction support, including acquisitions, dispositions, and financing
- Supports entity specific tax matters including allocations, ownership structures, and capital account considerations
- Advise leadership on tax implications of strategic decisions
- Prepares technical memos and supports complex tax positions
- Identifies tax planning opportunities aligned with growth strategy
- Helps build and scale the tax function to support high-growth, private equity-backed environments
- Leads and supports tax audits, including documentation of key tax positions and credits
- Drives process improvements and enhances SOX-compliant tax controls
- Improves tax data flows and integration with financial systems
- Manages tax notices and inquiries across jurisdictions
- Coordinates limited Canadian tax compliance with external advisors
- Supports budgeting and forecasting processes
- Maintains awareness of tax legislation changes and their business impacts
- Contributes to special projects in a high-growth environment
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or tax
- CPA required
- Minimum 6 years' tax experience in public accounting and/or corporate tax
- Big 4 experience preferred
- Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Experience working in Renewable Energy and/or Private Equity preferred
- Knowledge of ASC 740 and U.S. tax laws
- Exposure to renewable energy tax concepts or capital-intensive industries
- Ability to perform complex tax research and analysis and effectively communicate results
- Clear and effective communication skills across all levels
- Comprehension of complex accounting topics
- Leadership and influencing experience, maturity, and judgment
- Multiple priorities management, fast-paced environment, change handling, flexibility
- Microsoft Office Suite proficiency, especially Advanced MS Excel
