Responsibilities

  • Functional management of approximately 8-10 software engineering personnel assigned to a variety of programs.
  • Conduct performance assessments, staffing, employee development, communication meetings, disciplinary actions, and training/educational oversight.
  • Provide technical leadership of software systems and work closely with stakeholders to ensure high-quality and efficient software lifecycle completion.
  • Allocate ~5-15% of time to this role, fluctuating based on business needs and the performance management cycle.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or other applicable STEM discipline and 5 years of relevant experience, or Master’s Degree with 3 years of experience, or PhD with 0 years of experience.
  • Proven leadership qualities and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Experience developing and providing technical leadership of software systems.
  • Detailed understanding of all aspects of software development.
  • Demonstrated mentoring skills and excellent two-way communication skills (upward and downward).
  • Knowledge of standard software engineering processes.
  • Proven time management and organizational skills to prioritize across concurrent responsibilities.
  • Willingness to obtain/maintain a DoD Secret Clearance once onboard.
  • Must have, and be able to maintain, at least one of the following active U.S. Government security clearances:
    • Department of Defense Secret level with a background investigation date within 10 years, or
    • Department of Energy L clearance with a background investigation date within 10 years.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in engineering functional management.
  • Experience with multiple iterations of the complete software lifecycle as a practitioner.
  • Demonstrated coaching skills.
  • Previous experience leading a team of 3-5+ employees with a record of on-time performance.
  • Experience developing proposal inputs (task descriptions and basis of estimate).
  • Exemplary professionalism and ability to maintain composure in stressful situations.
  • Experience with AI auto code generation tools.
  • Hands-on experience with the Amherst System’s EW Simulators (including CEESIM product line).
  • Experience leading Agile software development.
  • Experience with JIRA for issue tracking.
  • Experience with GitHub for configuration management.

Pay

Primary salary range: $121,000.00 – $181,400.00. The range represents a general guideline; Northrop Grumman considers factors such as scope, responsibilities, experience, education, skills, and current market conditions when determining base salary offers. Depending on the position, employees may also be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses reward individual contributions and allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
