About Mentor A Promise

Mentor A Promise (MAP) is a New York City–based nonprofit serving children and youth ages 5–18 who are experiencing housing instability. MAP provides mentorship, literacy, social‑emotional learning, and creative‑expression programming in shelters, schools, and community spaces. Signature experiences such as The Imagination Studio, The Kitchen Table, The Sound Lab, and The Story Space nurture academic development, emotional well‑being, and creative voice within a trauma‑informed, culturally responsive, and accessibility‑centered framework.

About PromiseMeasure

PromiseMeasure is MAP’s monitoring, evaluation, learning, and organizational‑impact division. It helps MAP understand the effectiveness of its programs, partnerships, initiatives, and strategies while building systems that turn information into learning and learning into improvement. The focus is on measuring what matters, not everything.

Role Overview

The Manager of Impact will manage day‑to‑day implementation of MAP’s impact‑measurement and learning work. Translating MAP’s broader MEL strategy into practical systems, analyses, reports, dashboards, evaluation activities, and organizational learning, the role sits between strategy and execution. The Manager ensures that PromiseMeasure’s standards become consistent practice and that the organization can answer: “What is changing because of MAP’s work, what evidence do we have, and what should we learn from it?”

Responsibilities

  • Impact Measurement
    • Develop practical impact indicators and maintain outcome frameworks.
    • Coordinate data collection and review program and partnership information.
    • Track organizational outcomes, identify evidence gaps, and support evaluation activities.
    • Analyze quantitative and qualitative information, develop impact summaries, and support dashboards and reporting.
    • Translate findings into actionable recommendations.
  • Program Impact
    • Work with PromisePrograms and PromiseMeasure leadership to understand outcomes of PromiseRooted and PromiseConnects.
    • Support analysis of participation, attendance, retention, engagement, mentor consistency, youth and family experience, program completion, learning, skill development, belonging, and program quality.
  • Educational Impact
    • Partner with PromiseLearning and the Director of Educational Impact & Outcomes.
    • Organize and analyze data on literacy, academic enrichment, skill development, student engagement, youth feedback, and overall learning experiences.
  • Partnership Impact
    • Collaborate with PromiseBridge and Partnership Impact Analysts.
    • Evaluate youth opportunities, workshops, mentors, career exposure, internships, educational opportunities, professional expertise, pro‑bono services, technology, research support, in‑kind contributions, organizational capacity, community connections, financial support, and new introductions.
    • Apply a practical framework: Purpose → Contribution → Activity → Output → Outcome → Organizational Value → Learning → Next Step.
  • Data Collection & Organization
    • Establish reliable processes for gathering program records, attendance, surveys, feedback, assessments, partnership records, volunteer information, interviews, qualitative feedback, and organizational records.
    • Identify missing, inconsistent, or unclear information before it informs conclusions.
  • Data Analysis
    • Clean and organize datasets, review trends, analyze survey responses, summarize qualitative feedback, and identify patterns.
    • Compare intended vs. actual outcomes, develop descriptive statistics, flag unusual findings, document limitations, and recommend further analysis.
  • Dashboards & Visualization
    • Create useful dashboards, charts, and summaries for programs, partnerships, outcome trackers, youth engagement, quarterly impact reports, executive summaries, program and partnership profiles, and annual impact reporting.
  • Surveys & Feedback
    • Develop and administer surveys for youth, families, volunteers, partners, and internal teams, ensuring each data collection effort has a clear purpose and respects respondents’ time.
  • Impact Reporting
    • Translate evidence into clear, responsible reports for internal and external audiences, including quarterly summaries, program and partnership reports, grant‑related impact information, executive briefings, organizational dashboards, annual reports, data briefs, presentations, and outcome summaries.
  • Impact Analysts & Team Coordination
    • Assign projects, clarify deliverables, set timelines, review work, provide feedback, monitor progress, identify barriers, escalate methodological questions, and encourage collaboration among analysts and volunteers.
  • Organizational Learning
    • Facilitate a continuous‑learning cycle: Measure → Understand → Discuss → Decide → Improve → Reassess, bringing findings back to teams to inform decisions.
  • Data Integrity & Responsible Interpretation
    • Maintain standards for accuracy, completeness, definitions, documentation, methodology, interpretation, limitations, data quality, version control, and responsible reporting.
    • Comfortably communicate what is known, what is suggested, and what remains unknown.
  • Youth & Family Dignity
    • Ensure measurement practices respect privacy, confidentiality, safeguarding, consent, and responsible information handling; treat people as individuals, not data points.
  • Cross‑Divisional Collaboration
    • Work across MAP divisions while respecting functional ownership: PromisePrograms (program delivery), PromiseLearning (educational strategy), PromiseRise (career‑readiness), PromiseBridge (partnership development), PromiseMeasure (measurement & learning), PromiseResearch (original research), PromiseShield (privacy & data protection), PromiseStack (technology infrastructure).
