Manager of Engineering / Assistant City Engineer

About the Role

The Manager of Engineering / Assistant City Engineer position is a key leadership role within the City's Engineering Division. This position oversees the daily operations of the Engineering Division, providing professional engineering services for the City's capital improvement program, development review, traffic engineering, and infrastructure maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, and direct the activities of the Engineering Division including capital improvement projects, traffic engineering, and infrastructure maintenance
• Provide professional engineering support and oversight for the City's Capital Improvement Program (CIP)
• Review and approve development plans, site plans, and construction plans for compliance with City codes and standards
• Manage and supervise engineering staff including professional engineers, technicians, and support personnel
• Prepare and present reports to City Council, boards, and commissions
• Coordinate with other City departments, outside agencies, and the public on engineering matters
• Oversee the design and construction of public works projects including roads, bridges, drainage systems, and utilities
• Develop and manage the Engineering Division budget
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and standards

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related engineering field from an ABET-accredited program
• Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Texas, or ability to obtain within six months of employment
• Minimum of five years of progressively responsible professional engineering experience, including supervisory experience
• Experience in municipal engineering, public works, or capital improvement projects
• Knowledge of engineering principles, practices, and techniques related to public infrastructure
• Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local regulations, codes, and standards
• Strong project management, communication, and leadership skills

Pay

• Annual salary range: $112,000 - $140,000
• Pay grade: 31
