About the Role

Lead the Data Engineering & Delivery (DED) team at Natera, a global leader in precision medicine and genomics testing. Work with ultra-large data sets (up to petabyte scale), develop innovative solutions using the latest cloud technologies, and deliver robust data products and automation systems that support Lab Operations, Genetic Counselor, and Lab Director teams—ultimately impacting patients' medical outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Leadership
    • Manage the DED team to develop and maintain data infrastructure, ingestion solutions, ETL pipelines, and data delivery systems for production support and internal applications.
    • Ensure timely and efficient delivery of robust data products that meet business needs and project requirements.
    • Measure, report, and improve operational effectiveness.
    • Train and coach team members on new technologies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Technical
    • Translate business needs and project requirements into technical specifications and implementation plans.
    • Collaborate with DSPE leadership to create design documents for data system architecture, ETL pipelines, and data delivery solutions.
    • Contribute to development, testing, deployment, validation, maintenance, and updates of data products and systems.
  • Quality, Compliance, and Documentation
    • Improve and enforce operating procedures for compliance, quality, and efficiency.
    • Create training materials and contribute to training activities for DED-owned data products and systems.
  • Cross-Functional Engagement
    • Proactively engage with internal and external stakeholders to align development roadmaps, resolve dependencies, and exchange performance metrics.
    • Represent the DED team in stakeholder meetings.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Statistics, Data Science, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Management Science, Operational Research, or a related field. Doctorate degrees are a plus.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant industry experience for candidates with a Master’s degree; minimum 2 years for candidates with a Doctorate degree.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a highly regulated environment (e.g., CLIA and/or FDA compliant settings).
  • Minimum 2 years of management experience leading a Data Engineering, Data Production/Delivery, or Data Analytics team, with demonstrable leadership and team management skills.

Skills

  • Strong proficiency in SQL and Python; proficiency in R is a plus.
  • Proficiency in data analysis, statistical techniques, and data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, AWS QuickSight).
  • Strong SQL skills for developing robust and maintainable queries on complex data sources.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
  • Proficiency in building data products (e.g., data aggregation, extraction, transformation, QC); experience with dbt is a plus.
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.
  • Working knowledge of genomics and bioinformatics workflows; human genetics knowledge is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Git workflow and version control systems (e.g., GitHub, GitLab).
  • Experience with healthcare data, electronic health records (EHR), and clinical terminology is a plus.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams.
  • Strong documentation practices and coding style.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong integrity.

Pay

Compensation range: $139,900—$174,900 USD. Final compensation will vary based on experience, qualifications, and internal equity considerations.
