About the role
We are seeking an experienced, creative, and forward-thinking public relations professional to join the organization as Manager of Communications. This individual will serve as one of the main points of contact for all Hurricanes player, coach, and management media requests, helping to shape the narrative for the defending Stanley Cup champions.
Responsibilities
- Serve as point of contact for all Hurricanes-related media requests.
- Produce and maintain all team media relations publications including the media guide, press releases, game notes, and the media website.
- Work collaboratively with all organizational departments to promote the company’s goals and earn external media.
- Lead credentialing efforts, including outlet assessment, media monitoring, and distribution list maintenance, with a focus on identifying new external media opportunities.
- Manage press box and game night staff including seat and booth assignments, line charts, and in-game notes preparation.
- Identify compelling storylines to showcase the Hurricanes and their personnel in local and national media, highlighting the personalities and backstories that make the team special.
- Assist in creating media events including news conferences to promote major organizational initiatives, events, and personnel changes.
- Travel with the team to serve as media contact and manage required team media availabilities.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, Sports Management, or a related field.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, as well as the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
- Attention to detail and capacity to work under tight deadlines.
- Strong understanding of hockey, particularly as it pertains to statistics.
- Previous collegiate or professional sports communications experience preferred.
- Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays, and travel throughout the NHL season.
- Must pass a criminal background check.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the US.
