About the role
The open position is for the McGuire Nuclear Station (MNS) Operations Support Engineering (OSE) – Electrical Manager. This position reports to the Engineering General Manager and manages a staff of engineers who provide support to the station in the area of Electrical Engineering.
Responsibilities
- Manages a staff of degreed engineers and other professional technical personnel which perform various engineering activities, including, but not limited to: preparing and reviewing calculations and various engineering evaluations; monitoring system health; supporting troubleshooting and failure investigation activities; determining appropriate maintenance strategy and work scope; and supporting fleet/site initiatives.
- Ensures use of technical conscience principles and technical rigor during development of engineering products and recommendations that are commensurate with the safety significance.
- Provides engineering expertise to recognize and resolve complex engineering/technical problems to ensure safe, reliable and efficient station operations/power generation.
- Expands the team for dealing with complex problems beyond the scope of owner-organization expertise.
- Ensures adherence to technical and administrative procedures as well as safe work practices and policies applicable to nuclear generation.
- Safeguards capable individuals are assigned to perform the role of Operations Support Engineer and appropriate training is provided to ensure knowledge and skills are achieved and maintained.
- Represents MNS Engineering (ENG) as the duty manager on a rotational basis.
- Fulfills an Emergency Response Organization (ERO) role.
- Performs observations and provides coaching as necessary to improve performance.
- Identifies gaps in department and worker performance and develops solutions to close the gaps to improve performance.
- Identifies opportunities to leverage innovation and work elimination to improve efficiency and champions the implementation of those opportunities.
- Collaborates with other departments to support work management, outage management, and equipment reliability initiatives.
- Works with employees to create Individual Development Plans (IDPs) to support their career progression and improve performance.
- Participates in ENG training forums/processes to ensure adequate line ownership of training.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or the related sciences
- 4 years related experience which shall include 1 year nuclear power plant experience and 0.25 years on-site experience
Desired Qualifications
- Work experience with electrical engineering, digital process systems, and/or cyber security
- Registered Professional Engineer
- SRO or SRO Certification
- Necessary overall nuclear background to determine when to call consultants and contractors for dealing with complex problems beyond the scope of owner-organization expertise.
