About the role
This position provides leadership for the integrated Network and Cybersecurity Engineering functions and operates as both a senior technical resource and working manager. The role maintains direct responsibility for complex engineering activities while overseeing daily operational direction across enterprise networking and cybersecurity domains.
Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day leadership, guidance, and mentorship to network and cybersecurity engineers.
- Supervise team member performance, development, skill progression, and work prioritization.
- Support staffing, recruiting, onboarding, retention, and succession planning efforts.
- Build and maintain a unified culture across the combined network and cybersecurity teams.
- Collaborate with IT leadership, operational directors, business stakeholders, and project teams to align priorities and resources.
- Serve as the primary technical escalation point for complex network and cybersecurity issues.
- Function as the organization's lead engineer for enterprise network infrastructure and related security technologies.
- Configure, troubleshoot, optimize, and maintain Cisco switches, routers, wireless, VPN, and related network technologies.
- Administer, configure, troubleshoot, and support Check Point firewalls and related perimeter security platforms.
- Lead complex troubleshooting efforts involving infrastructure, connectivity, segmentation, firewall policy, secure remote access, and security enforcement layers.
- Perform and support upgrades, migrations, lifecycle replacements, patching, and performance optimization across network and security platforms.
- Maintain direct involvement in technical design, implementation, root-cause analysis, and production support.
- Serve as the senior technical leader for cybersecurity engineering, security operations coordination, and incident response.
- Lead or coordinate technical incident response activities for cybersecurity and network-related events, including containment, eradication, recovery, and post-incident improvement.
- Develop, maintain, and improve cybersecurity engineering standards, response procedures, and technical playbooks.
- Evaluate, recommend, implement, and optimize technologies that strengthen prevention, visibility, monitoring, and response capabilities.
- Partner with internal teams and external providers to support vulnerability management, logging, alerting, investigation, and remediation efforts.
- Maintain awareness of emerging threats, attack techniques, defensive controls, and relevant technologies.
- Design and implement scalable, resilient, and secure infrastructure solutions.
- Define and maintain architecture standards, engineering baselines, hardening standards, and best practices.
- Ensure layered security controls are incorporated across network, endpoint, application, identity, and data environments.
- Evaluate new products, platforms, and services for business value, risk reduction, and technical fit.
- Recommend strategic improvements in enterprise architecture, security posture, redundancy, and resilience.
- Monitor network and security platform performance, capacity, health, and reliability.
- Maintain operational readiness through patching, updates, backups, lifecycle planning, and configuration management.
- Enforce security policies, technical standards, and regulatory or compliance requirements.
- Ensure systems and platforms are maintained in a secure, supported, and auditable manner.
- Support vulnerability remediation and operational follow-through on identified infrastructure and security risks.
- Aid in long-term infrastructure and cybersecurity strategy, planning, and roadmap development.
- Prepare, support, and track budgets for network and security initiatives, maintenance, renewals, and capital planning.
- Lead or participate in technical projects from planning through implementation and operational transition.
- Develop and maintain documentation related to architecture, standards, operational procedures, configurations, and recovery processes.
- Identify opportunities for modernization, risk reduction, service improvement, and operational efficiency.
- Work with vendors and partners to evaluate solutions, procure equipment and services, and resolve technical issues.
- Oversee support relationships, maintenance agreements, renewals, and service expectations.
- Coordinate with service providers, security partners, and other third parties to support operational and strategic objectives.
- Ensure vendor-delivered solutions align with technical standards, security requirements, and business needs.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Network Engineering, Cybersecurity, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- 7+ years of progressively responsible hands-on experience in enterprise network engineering and/or cybersecurity engineering.
- Significant experience working in a complex enterprise environment.
- Strong hands-on experience with Cisco network infrastructure, including switches, routers, routing, switching, and network troubleshooting.
- Strong hands-on experience with Check Point firewalls, including configuration, troubleshooting, policy management, and maintenance.
- Demonstrated experience leading or coordinating complex technical work across both infrastructure and security domains.
- Experience in team leadership, supervision, or mentorship, whether formal or informal.
- Demonstrated experience supporting or leading cybersecurity functions such as incident response, security engineering, monitoring, prevention, or security platform administration.
- Cisco CCNP certification strongly preferred; equivalent advanced enterprise network engineering experience may be considered.
- Additional Cisco certifications such as CCIE are a plus.
- CISSP or equivalent cybersecurity certification is preferred.
Qualifications
