Responsibilities
- Oversee daily operations of the Medical Staff Office, ensuring timely, accurate credentialing, reappointment, and clinical privileging processes for Medical Staff and APPs.
- Ensure compliance with The Joint Commission, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, state and federal regulations, Medical Staff Bylaws, and corporate compliance standards, maintaining survey readiness at all times.
- Review, prepare, and validate credentialing and privileging files to ensure completeness, defensibility, and quality prior to committee and governing board review.
- Coverage of Medical Staff committees, including agenda preparation, meeting facilitation, documentation of minutes, tracking follow-up actions, and end-of-cycle privileging processes.
- Serve as a subject matter expert and professional resource to Medical Staff leadership, department chairs, providers, and administration on governance and credentialing matters.
- Manage departmental staff, including training, supervision, performance oversight, and fostering a culture of accountability, professionalism, and service excellence.
- Maintain departmental performance metrics, deadlines, and workflow efficiency, identifying opportunities for process improvement and risk reduction.
- Address physician concerns, complaints, and sensitive matters with professionalism, discretion, and appropriate follow-up.
- Support organizational goals by aligning Medical Staff operations with strategic initiatives and maintaining the department's integral role in the continuum of care.
Requirements
- A high school diploma or equivalent required.
- An associate's or bachelor's degree preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a hospital Medical Staff Services department or credentialing verification organization.
- Strong working knowledge of credentialing, reappointment, privileging, Medical Staff governance, and regulatory requirements (TJC, CMS, state, and federal).
- Demonstrated leadership ability with experience supervising staff, managing workflows, and meeting complex deadlines with accuracy.
- Excellent communication skills, professionalism, and discretion when handling confidential and sensitive information.
- CPCS (Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist) and/or CPMSM (Certified Professional Medical Services Management) preferred.
- Current experience with credentialing software (MD-Staff) preferred.
Qualifications
