About the role

The Manager, Legal Operations will report to the Director, Head of Legal Operations and play a critical role in scaling and optimizing the operations of our Legal team.

Responsibilities

  • You will own the legal department budget: planning, tracking, forecasting, and variance analysis in partnership with Finance.

  • Oversee outside counsel management program, including managing firm relationships, including the enforcement of outside counsel guidelines, rate negotiations, and matter budgets.

  • Serve as primary administrator for e-billing platform and matter management system; ensure data integrity and train legal team on tools.

  • Own the monthly accruals process in partnership with Finance, tracking unbilled outside counsel spend, gathering estimates from law firms, and ensuring accurate reporting at close.

  • Lead vendor selection and RFP processes for legal technology and outside counsel panels.

  • Evaluate and implement AI and automation tools to reduce administrative burden on attorneys.

  • Build and maintain dashboards and reporting on legal spend for leadership.

  • Identify and implement process improvements across legal workflows.

  • Identify, design, and implement process improvements to enhance Legal’s scalability, efficiency, and impact.

  • Serve as a trusted partner and thought leader to attorneys and business stakeholders on operational best practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.

  • 5+ years of experience in legal operations, legal project management, or a related function.

  • 2+ years working in or closely with an in-house legal team with a demonstrated understanding of outside counsel management, e-billing, and financial management (global experience is a plus).

  • Hands-on experience with e-billing technology (Brightflag preferred) and familiarity with matter management tools.

  • Strong technical acumen and comfort with legal tech and process implementation, administration, and adoption.

  • Proven ability to manage cross-functional projects from initiation through execution, with strong change management skills.

  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Analytical mindset with experience turning data into insights and actionable recommendations.

  • Proactive, solution-oriented approach with a track record of improving processes and delivering measurable results.

  • Ability to work independently while building strong relationships across teams.
