Manager Income & Franchise Tax
About the role
The Manager, Income & Franchise Tax serves a key role in the preparation and review of the Company's federal, state, local, and international tax compliance, tax accounting, REIT qualification testing, tax planning initiatives, and income tax audits. The position assists in developing income tax strategy including process improvements and automation and will partner closely with Accounting, Finance, Legal, Internal Audit, and external advisors to ensure compliance with all applicable tax laws while supporting the strategic objectives of the Company.
Responsibilities
- Manage the preparation and review of federal, state, and local income tax returns, franchise tax returns, gross receipts tax filings, and related work papers.
- Oversee quarterly estimated tax payments and extension calculations.
- Complete quarterly and annual REIT qualification testing, including income, asset, and distribution requirements.
- Affiliate with analyzing and documenting significant transactions for REIT compliance purposes.
- Actively participate in the quarterly and annual ASC 740 income tax provision process including current and deferred tax calculations, uncertain tax positions, valuation allowances, and effective tax rate analyses.
- Support preparation of SEC disclosures, including Forms 10-Q and 10-K.
- Cook internal controls and SOX compliance activities relating to income taxes.
- Ensure accurate tax account reconciliations and documentation standards.
- Research complex tax issues and prepare technical memoranda documenting conclusions.
- Manage responses to tax notices and information requests from taxing authorities.
- Identify opportunities to reduce tax risk and improve tax efficiency.
- Support mergers, acquisitions, restructurings, divestitures, and other strategic transactions.
- Monitor changes in federal, state, and local tax laws and evaluate the impact on the Company. Advance automation initiatives and technology solutions to improve efficiency and controls.
- Clearly communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
Requirements
The successful candidate will possess strong technical tax expertise, tax compliance and tax accounting experience, awareness of REIT taxation, and the ability to meet recurring tax deadlines while advancing special projects.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, tax or related
- Five (5) or more years of tax and accounting experience with an emphasis in income tax or related tax experience
- CPA certification preferred, but not required
Skills
Well-developed knowledge of federal and state income tax rules as well as experience with ASC 740 income tax accounting and public company SEC reporting
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Outstanding Excel skills and experience with data management and ERP systems
Prior staff supervision experience preferred

Pay
The salary range offered for this position is $111800 - $153700 annually.
Schedule
This role falls into our hybrid work model working in the office on Monday through Thursday. On Fridays, teammates have the option to work from the office or home. There is an expectation of collaboration with teammates and stakeholders for moments that matter that could require travel.
