Manager In Training - Produce Department Manager
About the role
99 Ranch Market is one of the largest Asian supermarket chains in the United States, with store locations across California, Nevada, Texas, Washington, Oregon, Maryland, Massachusetts, Virginia, New Jersey, and expanding. We are seeking a Manager in Training for the Produce Department who will undergo a 6 to 8-month training and evaluation period. Upon successful completion, qualified candidates will be assigned to a store to oversee the Hot Deli Department, including supervisory duties and operational management.
Responsibilities
- Manage the Hot Deli Department’s daily operations and meet company standards.
- Collaborate with store management to design promotion plans and meet sales targets.
- Maintain attractive food displays, ensure product quality and freshness, and keep service areas stocked based on customer demand.
- Plan production and order ingredients/supplies based on inventory, promotions, sales trends, and delivery schedules.
- Receive and inspect shipments for quantity, quality, condition, and freshness.
- Control inventory movement (FIFO), including rotating ingredients, organizing storage areas, monitoring waste, and directing inventory counts.
- Ensure food preparation, portioning, packaging, labeling, holding, and storage comply with company SOP and food-safety standards.
- Maintain familiarity with customer preferences, seasonal demand, and popular local Hot Deli products.
- Use label-updating and price-sign printing computer programs efficiently.
- Schedule department employees and manage attendance.
- Handle Human Capital Management, including coaching, training, mentoring, and performance reviews.
- Maintain a safe and clean workplace and perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- 2 years of experience in hot deli, food service, restaurant, food production, grocery retail, or related fields (1 year of management/supervisor experience required).
- Ability to work in varying temperatures and use department equipment.
- Capable of lifting 25+ lbs and standing for long periods.
- Flexible schedule (nights, weekends, holidays) and willingness to relocate if necessary.
- Ability to travel between stores for training purposes.
- Strong skills in reading, analyzing, and interpreting technical procedures and training materials.
- Proficient in speaking, writing, presenting, and responding to information and questions.
- Excellent interpersonal skills for handling sensitive and confidential situations.
- Ability to calculate figures such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, area, mass, and volume.
- Familiarity with inventory management programs, Microsoft Office, IT retail, or SAP is highly preferred.
- Commitment to company values and customer service.
- Bilingual in English, Chinese, and/or Spanish is highly preferred.
- Authorized to work in the United States.
- At least 18 years old.
Training
Training will take place at 1070 Foster City Blvd, Foster City, CA 94404.

Pay
$20.00–$28.00 per hour during the training period, based on experience. After passing the final assessment, employees will be promoted from hourly to exempt status. Compensation is influenced by job responsibilities, education, skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
Schedule
- Full-time position (40–45 hours per week).
- 6 days per week with 1 day off (day off follows trainer’s schedule and is not fixed).
- Weekend and holiday shifts required.
- Overtime as needed.
