Manager In Training - Meat Department Manager

About the role

The trainee will undergo training and evaluations for 6 to 8 months. After the training period, qualified candidates will be assigned to a store and responsible for the Hot Deli Department's standard operating procedures, product knowledge, production planning, ordering, organization, employee management, and all other supervisory duties.

Responsibilities

• Manage the Hot Deli Department's daily operations and meet company standards.
• Collaborate with the store management team to design promotion plans and meet sales targets.
• Maintain attractive food displays, ensure product quality and freshness, and keep service areas fully stocked based on customer demand.
• Plan production and order ingredients and supplies based on inventory, promotion events, sales trends, and delivery schedules.
• Receive and inspect food and supply shipments for quantity, quality, condition, and freshness.
• Control inventory movement (FIFO), including rotating ingredients and prepared products, organizing cooler and freezer areas, monitoring waste and shrink, and directing physical inventory counts.
• Ensure food preparation, portioning, packaging, labeling, holding, and storage follow company SOP and food-safety standards.
• Maintain familiarity with customer preferences, seasonal demand, and popular local Hot Deli products.
• Use label updating and price sign printing computer programs efficiently.
• Provide schedules to department employees and manage attendance.
• Handle Human Capital Management, including coaching, operational training, mentoring, and performance reviews.
• Maintain a safe and clean workplace and perform other duties as needed.

Requirements

• 2 years of experience in hot deli, food service, restaurant, food production, grocery retail, or related fields (1 year of management/supervisor experience required).
• Ability to work in environments with varying temperatures and use department equipment.
• Capable of lifting 25+ lbs and standing for long periods.
• Flexible schedule (nights, weekends, and holidays) and willingness to relocate if necessary.
• Ability to travel between different stores for training purposes.
• Strong skills in reading, analyzing, and interpreting technical procedures and training materials.
• Proficient in speaking, writing, presenting, and responding to information and questions.
• Excellent interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations.
• Ability to calculate figures such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, area, mass, and volume.
• Familiarity with inventory management programs, Microsoft Office, IT retail, or SAP is highly preferred.
• Commitment to company values and customer service.
• Bilingual in English, Chinese, and/or Spanish is highly preferred.
• Authorized to work in the United States.
• At least 18 years old.

Training will take place at 2701 Stoneridge Dr, Pleasanton, CA 94588.

Pay

$20.00–$28.00 per hour during the training period, based on experience. After passing the final assessment, employees will be promoted from hourly to exempt status. Compensation is influenced by job responsibilities, education, skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

Schedule

• Full-time position (40–45 hours per week).
• 6 days a week with 1 day off (day off follows trainer’s schedule and is not fixed).
• Weekend and holiday shifts required.
• Overtime as needed.
