Manager In Training
About the Role
A Manager In Training with The Restaurant Store supports the daily operations of a retail location. Under the direction of the Regional Manager, this role accomplishes operational goals in sales, marketing, staffing, inventory control, and customer relations. Candidates enroll in a 6-month, comprehensive Manager In Training Program, which provides in-depth guidance on leadership skills and extensive training across all departments. Upon completion, candidates are placed into a permanent management position tailored to their skills and development.
Responsibilities
- Support the management of a ~30,000 sq. ft. warehouse/retail operation in a business-to-business sales environment and lead operations in the absence of the Branch Manager.
- Maintain a detailed understanding of the location’s daily functions and operational needs; manage customer sales issues and assist the Branch Manager with scheduling.
- Develop and train 15-25 team members to ensure consistent processes and procedures while role-modeling company values.
- Utilize DISC profiling to build a cohesive and high-performing team.
- Maintain accurate inventory control and ensure compliance with regulatory and quality standards.
- Support department managers with daily operations (inventory, merchandising, sales).
- Ensure company standards and procedures are followed, including managing escalated customer/employee complaints, incident reports, and legal actions.
- Support Membership and Gold Membership growth year over year within the local market.
- Promote the growth and utilization of TRS.com across the customer base.
- Manage the overall safety and maintenance needs of the building and equipment.
Physical Requirements
- Work is performed while standing and/or walking, up to and including 9 hours/day.
- Requires effective communication using speech, vision, and hearing.
- Requires regular use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations.
- Requires regular bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, and reaching.
- Requires the ability to regularly lift, carry, push, or pull medium weights, up to 50 lbs.
Experience
Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in retail and/or supply chain management overseeing site operations and sales.
Education
This role does not require a degree. Relevant skills, experience, and alignment with core values are prioritized.
Skills
- Proficiency with MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and experience with CRM systems and project management tools.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to explain technical and complex concepts clearly.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to adapt quickly to changing business needs and handle difficult situations with diplomacy and emotional intelligence.
- Service leadership approach with a desire to exceed expectations.
