About the role
The Manager in Training (MIT) position is a transitional role designed to prepare you for promotion into a Retail Store Management position. With a focus on leadership training, customer service excellence, and operational expertise, you'll receive hands-on assignments and structured learning opportunities. Within 8-12 weeks, you could progress into management—depending on your prior experience and performance. MITs must demonstrate consistent progression throughout the training program to be considered for management openings. Promotion is performance-based and subject to management availability.
Responsibilities
- Lead by example, demonstrating initiative and strong leadership under the Store Manager's guidance
- Drive store performance, foster a productive team, and ensure exceptional customer service
- Live The Pledge and deliver WOW! Customer Service while executing store operations with excellence
- Maintain clear and effective communication with employees and customers
- Manage, analyze, and reconcile monthly Profit & Loss (P&L) statements to optimize store profitability
- Support store operations and ensure compliance with policies
- Assist with staffing, mentoring, and training employees
- Take charge of customer service activities, ensuring outstanding experiences and resolving concerns proactively
- Oversee inventory accuracy, store merchandising, and sales strategies
- Complete management skills training covering store operations and AutoZone culture
Requirements
- 1-2 years of prior experience as a retail manager or supervisor
- Full-time flexible schedule availability, including mornings, nights, weekends, and overtime as needed
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Strong people skills and effective communication in both Spanish and English
Qualifications
- Previous experience in automotive retail or analyzing company financials (e.g., Profit & Loss statements) is a plus
