About the Role

In this role as our Import and Export Compliance Manager, you will lead the Import/Export team and manage all import and export compliance-related activities. This includes overseeing import entries and exports, advising on best trade practices, managing brokers and other service providers, and training. You will ensure global compliance with import and export laws, keeping FANUC America Corporation (FAC) current with all applicable rules and regulations. This position requires proven experience in leading, developing, and motivating teams, a solid understanding of import/export regulations, and a preference for in-person collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Manage compliance for international inbound and outbound freight movements, including freight tracking, tracing, expedited moves, and port redirects.
  • Maintain a high degree of knowledge regarding Import and Export Administration Regulations, changes, Bureau of Industry and Security requirements, and US Customs.
  • Provide leadership direction consistent with corporate vision, objectives, and strategy.
  • Promote a culture of transparency, collaboration, continuous improvement, and customer focus (internal and external).
  • Partner with leadership and HR on talent management, employee development, succession planning, orientation/onboarding, and employee engagement.
  • Lead improvement activities to streamline compliance processes while maintaining adherence to government regulations.
  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert for the Legal department and oversight committee to develop audit criteria and plan an annualized schedule for auditing Import and Export Control Compliance.
  • Provide notifications and issue corrective actions to address non-compliance.
  • Ensure accurate records and documentation per government regulatory requirements.
  • Manage brokers, including contract negotiations, performance compliance, and invoice audits.
  • Serve as the primary contact for issues involving governmental regulatory bodies, service providers, or import/export consultants.
  • Consult with Legal on CBP programs (e.g., Duty Drawback) and recommend participation.
  • Develop and maintain procedures for product classification in conjunction with import control.
  • Stay current on CBP Regulation changes, CTPAT changes, and HTSUS updates affecting FAC products.
  • Conduct recurring training for shipping personnel to ensure compliance with shipping guidelines and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide expertise for customer contract reviews of international terms and shipping arrangements.
  • Interface with FANUC on global logistics responsibilities, such as drop shipping into foreign countries.
  • Conduct annual CTPAT reviews with various FAC departments to ensure timely and accurate submissions.
  • Support the review of all transportation invoices (domestic and international) to ensure cost accuracy and proper allocation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Materials Management, Engineering, or a related field; or equivalent, relevant experience.
  • Eight or more years of industry experience working primarily with the management of imports and exports.
  • Working knowledge of US government Import/Export Regulations, including BIS Export Administration Regulations, USMCA requirements, and Harmonized Tariff Schedules.
  • Understanding of transportation standard terms, purchase orders/contracts, legal requirements for export services, and the Uniform Commercial Code.
  • Working knowledge of logistics execution (transportation, warehousing, etc.).

Preferred Qualifications

  • U.S. Customs broker license strongly preferred.
  • Master’s Degree in a related field.
  • Experience in exporting to and importing from Brazil, Mexico, Japan, and Canada.
