About the role
This position supports NRG’s generation fleet by delivering financial and operational analysis, planning, and reporting. The role partners with Operations Planning & Analysis and Business Management to drive budgeting, forecasting, benchmarking, and executive-level performance communication.
Responsibilities
- Budgeting, forecasting, and business planning across the generation fleet
- Spend analysis and variance reporting
- PowerSAM support and project economic analysis, including risk ranking and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance
- Maintain the Unit Characteristic (UC) Portal and facilitate updates and approval workflow
- PowerGADS support, event tracking, and metric reporting
- Annual Incentive Program (AIP) tracking and reporting
- Fleet financial and operational metric benchmarking and Lost Margin Opportunity and Commercial Availability tracking
- Scope 1 & 2 Sustainability reporting and support for 10Q/10K filings
- Summarize and present financial and operational data to executive management
- Design dashboards and visualizations to support timely decision-making
- Support Asset Integrity processes, registries, and scorecards
- Provide training across the generation fleet on PowerSAM, Unit Characteristics, and PowerGADS
- Assist with M&A processes for asset sales
Working Conditions
- Hybrid work environment located in Texas
- Travel outside the hybrid work environment is common; weekend travel is not common
- Willingness to work outside normal business hours during critical issue resolution and project milestones
Minimum Requirements
- Five to ten years of relevant heavy industry or conventional power plant experience
- BS/BA degree in Business, Accounting, Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field
Preferred Qualifications
- Ten or more years of industry experience with at least five years directly related to plant operations or heavy industry
- Comprehensive knowledge of the power industry, including power and commodity markets, rules, and regulations
- Strong operations background in asset optimization, investment, and project finance analysis
- Demonstrated track record delivering internal improvement projects in large, diverse organizations
Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Teams, PowerPoint); Power BI experience and dashboard development is a plus
- Proficiency or willingness to develop proficiency in NRG business applications (PowerSAM, PowerGADS, FPR, UC Portal, OSS, SAP)
- Strong decision-making, problem-solving, analytical, and critical-thinking skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication with the ability to collaborate across functional groups
- Highly organized with the ability to prioritize deadlines in fast-paced environments
- Remains focused and calm amid changing priorities and can influence others to do the same
Physical Requirements
- Up to 35% travel to plant sites to perform job duties
- Required to follow and use appropriate personal protective equipment when working in a plant environment
- Subject to periodic random drug testing, post-accident testing, and reasonable suspicion testing per NRG’s drug- and alcohol-free workplace policy
