Manager, Field Safety (Transmission & Distribution Projects)

About the Role
Responsible for the implementation of company-wide safety management systems, safety programs, and policies directed at monitoring and improving safety performance and compliance consistent with Company objectives and government regulations. Supports safety efforts associated with Capital Projects in Distribution and Transmission Electric Operations. Serves as liaison, principal contact, and partner for key customers to increase their safety knowledge and supports assessment and reduction of risks their teams encounter.
Manages the implementation of the Contractor Safety standard and development of contractor safety oversight strategies. Oversees safety inspections, observations, and auditing programs, and provides meeting topics to support the growth of the safety culture in the Transmission and Distribution Capital Projects operating areas.
Responsibilities
- Manages, reviews, assesses, and pursues opportunities for continuous improvement in safety management systems and regulatory compliance.
- Ensures current work procedures and related skills training programs comply with regulatory requirements.
- Provides training and information related to Company safety governance and human and operational performance initiatives.
- Ensures incidents are investigated, contributing factors identified, lessons learned communicated, and improvement plans implemented and validated to prevent recurrence.
- Assists in developing and implementing policy and procedure revisions based on data trending and incident evaluations.
- Manages safety regulatory affairs and records maintenance systems for regulatory reporting.
- Monitors and audits safety and health-related work performance of operating personnel and contractors for compliance with Company safety policies and safe work practices.
- Serves as liaison and principal contact for handling improvement actions and audit findings.
- Provides ongoing feedback to operating managers/leadership on safety performance and advises on revisions to maintain high safety standards.
- Creates partnerships with operations leadership to ensure a safe and healthy workplace.
- Consults with safety management teams and local safety committees.
- Reports on safety and health-related performance and trend analysis; develops strategic solutions and improvement plans.
- Conducts analysis of data from observations, incidents, events, and reportable injuries; provides improvement plans and implements changes.
- Manages projects resulting from improvement plans.
- Engages and works closely with unions to address and resolve safety and health issues.
- Manages a team of TriState Safety Advisors.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Safety, Applied Sciences, or related discipline, or equivalent experience.
- Ten (10) to twelve (12) years of related experience, preferably in the energy sector or comparable industry, including five (5) years in supervisory and managerial positions.
- Thorough knowledge of regulatory requirements pertaining to construction practices and electric operations.
- Knowledge of safety management systems, culture change practices, and human organizational performance.
- Thorough understanding of safety work practices and procedures.
- Excellent oral, written, interpersonal, and project management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or Certified Associate Industrial Hygienist (CAIH) preferred.
Working Conditions
- Must be available to work emergency restoration assignments as required.
- Must be available to travel between MA, CT, and NH as necessary.
Pay
Annual salary range: $146,660.00 - $162,950.00. This position is eligible for a potential incentive.
