Manager Facilities & Engineering

POSITION PURPOSE: Manager, Facilities & Engineering for Trinity Health Ann Arbor (THAA) provides administrative oversight to the Facilities and Engineering Division. This role offers industry-leading guidance on planning, design, and construction of capital projects in collaboration with Planning and Construction Services division leadership. The Manager ensures assigned areas align with hospital goals and policies, oversees the operating budget, and directs corrective actions for significant budget variances. This position approves purchases of products, equipment, and maintenance contracts for subordinate departments, ensuring alignment with Trinity Health’s strategic goals.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering, Construction Management, HVAC, or similar field, with a desired concentration in Business Administration.
• Equivalency in industry leadership (10+ years in leadership) may be considered in lieu of a formal degree.
• Approximately ten years of progressively responsible leadership experience in healthcare facilities and capital project fields.
• Thorough knowledge of applicable codes and regulations from accrediting and governmental bodies.
• Experience negotiating major operational equipment contracts.
• Ability to represent THAA to the public and interact effectively with influential internal and external personnel, including contractors, regulatory agency personnel, and legislators.

Responsibilities

• Ensures THAA is maintained in a safe, efficient, orderly, and proper operating condition.
• Formulates and approves short- and long-term goals, objectives, plans, and budgets for all Facilities and Engineering functions and activities.
• Works with managers to develop fiscal year goals, objectives, and budgets; oversees implementation and monitors adherence, initiating corrective action as necessary.
• Ensures THAA complies with all federal, state, and local safety, Environment of Care (EOC), pollution control, and environmental protection legislation and compliance requirements.
• Oversees, updates, and implements revisions to the Trinity Health site and facilities master plan.
• Provides leadership for plant-related capital construction projects.
• Conducts cost/benefit studies and recommends improvements, including construction, renovation, or equipment purchases based on inspections and budget analyses.
• Participates in the development of Trinity Health-wide plans, goals, and objectives as a member of the management team and leadership committees.
• Develops, secures approval for, and implements department policies and procedures.
• Performs or oversees electrical, plumbing, carpentry, mechanical repairs, and painting to maintain equipment and facilities in proper working order.
• Operates heating, cooling, and other energy generation equipment to ensure uninterrupted facility functions.
• Maintains energy management systems at optimal cost and service quality levels.
• Ensures regulatory and compliance requirements for EOC and other authorities having jurisdiction.
• Negotiates with vendors and awards large equipment maintenance contracts, supply orders, and major equipment purchases.
• Reviews and approves requests for major operational purchases within Facilities and Engineering.
• Oversees preparation of records and reports, regularly evaluating progress toward THAA goals and objectives.
• Represents THAA to outside government or accreditation agencies on Facilities and Engineering/EOC and compliance matters.
