About the Role
The Manager Plant Operations maintains the Medical Center's plant equipment and facilities systems to ensure life safety, continuous operations, longevity, and appearance. This role manages maintenance service and repair in power plant operations and general maintenance, establishes and updates mechanical, electrical, and plumbing standards, and oversees retrofit and project modifications. The position contributes to energy management strategies and may involve projects at other off-site facilities. It requires independent work, managing multiple assignments, and promoting teamwork and service excellence.
Responsibilities
- Oversee staff, including hiring, onboarding, evaluating, managing performance, coaching, and developing employees to ensure productivity, quality of work, and alignment with organizational mission, vision, and values.
- Ensure compliance with all policies and financial stewardship by managing the department budget.
- Provide leadership and direction for service and repair in Power Plant Operations and General Maintenance.
- Participate in the preparation of department operations and capital budgets, monitoring expenditures and reviewing capital requests for feasibility and funding.
- Ensure timely inspections for licenses and permits, posting new documents immediately upon receipt.
- Establish positive relationships with construction, administrative, clinical departments, and other directors/managers.
- Uphold city, state, and other building codes; manage hazardous materials and abatement contractors.
- Assist in establishing and implementing facilities engineering policies and procedures.
- Perform Life Safety Management, including maintaining fire suppression and life safety equipment (fire extinguishers, sprinkler systems, etc.) in accordance with applicable laws.
- Schedule and coordinate mandated inspections of fire alarm systems, fire suppression systems, and fire extinguishers.
- Coordinate with construction managers regarding inspections and assist with safety training for contracted employees.
- Ensure compliance with Fire Department and Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) inspections.
- Participate in the Utilities Management Committee to ensure reliability of utility systems.
- Coordinate repairs, replacements, and renovations of infrastructure projects, including campus construction projects.
- Participate in the capital planning process, identifying short and long-range facility needs.
- Develop project scope of work, cost estimates, specifications, timelines, and logistics, coordinating with internal departments (Safety and Security, Infection Control, Compliance) and outside agencies (OSHA, DHS, City, County, Federal Governments).
- Oversee quality assurance inspections, project logs, and budgets; approve utility shutdown requests ensuring safety and customer service.
- Participate in manager on-call duties, available 24/7 for inquiries and site visits during assigned weeks.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED (Required).
- Associate’s degree in Facilities Management, Engineering, or a related field (Preferred).
- Bachelor’s degree in Facilities Management, Engineering, Leadership, or a related field (Preferred).
- 5 years of experience in Facilities Maintenance or hospital management (Required).
- 5 years of experience as a Facilities Maintenance Manager or Facilities Director in a hospital environment (Preferred).
- Valid Driver’s License (Required).
- Certified Healthcare Facilities Manager (Preferred).
