Manager, Environmental Health & Safety

About the Role

This position is responsible for managing all Environmental, Health, and Safety (EH&S) activities at assigned facilities, ensuring compliance with local, state, federal, and international regulations while championing corporate EH&S and sustainability initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Manage all activities performed by EH&S staff at assigned facilities.
• Assist in the development and management of EH&S department goals and budgets.
• Develop and implement corporate EH&S policies and programs, ensuring regulatory compliance.
• Champion, manage, and implement corporate EH&S and sustainability initiatives at a regional level.
• Maintain communication with key stakeholders, liaise with regulatory authorities, and monitor EH&S metrics and performance.
• Provide support and advice to operational teams at all business levels.
• Support Emergency Response, Business Continuity, and Sustainability initiatives and processes.
• Plan, coordinate, and oversee safety and evacuation drills; provide and coordinate emergency response during and after business hours.
• Ensure timely correction of deficiencies identified during drills or emergencies.
• Oversee the maintenance of EH&S files, manifests, and records.
• Compile case studies and analyses of industrial accident causes and hazards for company reference.
• Administer and manage the company’s workers’ compensation program for U.S. operations at assigned facilities.
• Advise HR on employee relations issues concerning accommodation for disabilities and fitness for duty.
• Plan and execute EH&S compliance audits to identify and correct potential hazards; recommend, coordinate, and track corrective actions.
• Investigate unsafe conditions, industrial incidents, and accidents; analyze accident data and prepare reports for regulatory agencies.
• Develop proactive solutions and track implementation of corrective actions.
• Manage the region’s ergonomic program, conducting and overseeing ergonomic evaluations and follow-up actions.
• Provide support and guidance to departments and regional sites on complex EH&S issues.
• Maintain liaison with government agencies and stay abreast of new developments and regulations.
• Participate as an active member of the Global EH&S Leadership Team.
• Support other Supply Chain operations with EH&S program implementation and compliance as requested.

Leadership & Staff Management

• Lead, mentor, and supervise the local EH&S team, providing clear direction, support, and professional development opportunities.
• Foster a culture of safety and environmental stewardship across all levels of the organization.
• Set performance goals for EH&S staff, conduct regular performance reviews, and provide constructive feedback.
• Develop and deliver training programs to ensure staff understand and comply with EH&S policies, procedures, and regulations.
• Collaborate with department heads and senior management to integrate EH&S initiatives into business operations and strategic planning.
• Champion continuous improvement by identifying opportunities for process enhancements and encouraging innovative solutions.
• Ensure effective and proactive communication of EH&S objectives, initiatives, and changes throughout the organization.
• Investigate—or evaluate investigations by team members—regarding incidents and near-misses, leading root cause analyses and ensuring corrective actions are implemented.
• Model exemplary leadership by demonstrating integrity, accountability, and a commitment to the organization’s EH&S goals.

Physical Demands

• Sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
• Stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
• Lift, push, pull, and carry products weighing up to 45 pounds.
• Potential exposure to moving mechanical parts, vibration, and/or moderate noise levels.
• Potential exposure to hazardous chemicals or other materials.
• Safety shoes compliant with site-specific policies/procedures must be worn in designated areas.
• Potential exposure to blood.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Safety, Occupational Safety and Health, or related field required.
• 8-10 years of related experience preferred, preferably in a corporate environment.
• 3+ years of people management experience.
• Experience working in ISO-certified businesses (e.g., ISO 45001 and ISO 14001).
• Current professional certification from recognized EHS entities preferred (e.g., CSP, CIH, CHMM).

Pay

The annualized base salary range for this role is $99,700.00 - $166,200.00 and is bonus eligible. Final compensation packages will depend on factors including relevant experience, skillset, knowledge, geography, education, business needs, and market demand.
