About the Role

Lead the firmware team to ensure successful delivery of new products and timely support of firmware needs on legacy products. Oversee a team of embedded firmware engineers designing, developing, and testing embedded firmware for energy-efficient, low GWP heating, cooling, and IAQ products. Develop high-level strategic project plans, execute capital projects, and coordinate multi-functional teams.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the entire life cycle (excluding Validation) for all embedded software used in Embedded Controllers, supporting 8-bit to 32-bit embedded processors and SoCs.
  • Manage people, projects, and technology as both a people manager and subject matter expert (SME).
  • Directly contribute to development, including programming, bug fixing, issue resolution, and design review in embedded C.
  • Develop and manage project schedules for existing product launches or design modifications.
  • Lead and ensure the productivity of the embedded software team, right-sizing resources for workload demands (currently 5 FTE developers and 3 FTE contract resources).
  • Coordinate project work internally and externally to ensure on-time, within-budget completion.
  • Participate in additional projects to support ongoing business needs.
  • Define and implement continuous improvement opportunities.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in embedded software development, documentation, and code review.
  • 3+ years in a leadership role (project or people manager).
  • Expert-level proficiency in embedded C for electromechanical devices (HVAC, medical devices, appliances, automotive, or flow control).
  • Preferred experience with microcontroller-based systems (Microchip, Atmel, ST, Renesas, or equivalent).
  • Experience with version control and release processes (e.g., Bitbucket, GitHub, GitLab).
  • Solid understanding of industry best practices in software development.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering.
