About the role
The Manager, Engineering will lead the design and development of fiber cable products, managing Development Engineering and Quality Assurance teams in our Fuquay-Varina facility. This role requires strong leadership, engineering skills, and a passion for quality.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage Development Engineering and Quality Assurance teams to meet departmental and BU objectives.
- Foster a culture of hard work, achievement, high performance, and professional development.
- Oversee development engineering projects and drive output with both vendors and internal teams.
- Ensure projects are completed timely, profitably, and to specifications.
- Provide engineering leadership and oversight; align with business direction.
- Participate on technical review boards to ensure engineering design meets product, market, quality, cost, and manufacturing needs and goals.
- Develop and maintain a Quality plan to maintain plant Quality Systems and processes in compliance with NS and Corporate standards.
- Drive continuous improvement efforts including statistical capability, audits, and corrective actions.
- Maintain Quality performance metrics and address Quality concerns through closed loop actions.
- Stay updated on Quality techniques, trends, and concepts through involvement in professional societies.
- Collaborate with final inspection team to address non-conforming material dispositions.
Qualifications
- Strong background in statistical techniques and application.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong knowledge of: Product development and NPI processes, Quality management systems (ISO 9001 or equivalent), APQP, PAC, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement tools.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment, manage a team of engineers, collaborate effectively, and make sound decisions.
- Solution-oriented, self-motivated, enthusiastic, and flexible.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering required with a focus on mechanical engineering. Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum 7 years of mechanical design engineering, product development, manufacturing engineering, or quality engineering experience.
- Previous management experience required.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment required.
- Experience with regulatory compliance and validation testing methods.
- ASQ Certified Quality Engineer and/or Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE) a plus.
- Six Sigma Experience (Green or Black Belt) preferred.
