Carpenter Technology Corporation’s Hartsville Operations in McBee, South Carolina, is a mini-mill producing high-quality round, square, and hexagonal stainless steel bars for distribution. The facility was acquired in 1997 to expand manufacturing capacity within the corporation’s core Specialty Alloys Operations division.
Responsibilities
- Plans and directs all aspects of engineering activities.
- Leads facility expansion and capacity additions.
- Procures and implements new processes, technologies, and equipment.
- Supports ongoing operations and ensures health, safety, and environmental regulatory compliance.
- Ensures all projects, initiatives, and processes conform to the organization’s established project management methodology, policies, and objectives.
- Applies business and management expertise to achieve financial and operational objectives within or across areas or departments.
- Develops departmental plans including business, production, and/or organizational priorities.
- Manages resources to ensure financial and operational objectives are met.
- Identifies and resolves complex technical, operational, and organizational problems.
- Develops relationships with key customers to identify emerging needs.
- Effectively coaches, provides performance feedback, and offers development opportunities within or across areas or departments.
- Leads business improvement efforts and assists others in using statistical methods for decision-making.
- Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.
Requirements
- Four-year college degree required.
- Ten or more years’ experience as an engineer in a manufacturing environment.
- Preference for five or more years of managerial experience in a related technical discipline or manufacturing.
- Expert knowledge of engineering principles, standards, methods, and practices.
- Ability to execute business plans and achieve goals.
- Ability to organize and prioritize tasks and make timely, appropriate technical and business decisions.
- Willingness to solve problems and investigate issues in mill manufacturing areas.
- Strong awareness of industry best practices and supporting technology.
- Ability to travel as required.
- Open and candid communications style; willingness to dissent and encourage dissent prior to final decision-making.
- Ability to lead others, manage individual employee performance, and train and develop other professionals.
- High responsiveness to requests from other teams and departments.
- Ability to be a team player; consistently delivers against commitments to the team and its members.
- Ability to work proactively and effectively with business units and a large manufacturing organization.
- Good business writing skills.
