Manager, Data Science and Optimization - Retail Bank

The Retail Bank team is a high-performing modeling and analytics group focused on defining the next generation of banking. With a relentless focus on statistical modeling and innovation, the team aims to continually improve decision-making and deliver value to the business. You will build the next generation of data products to enable automation and in-moment decisioning using machine learning and distributed computing technologies.

Responsibilities

• Formulate and solve complex problems by translating ambiguous business challenges into structured mathematical problems.
• Design and implement optimization models (linear, mixed-integer, non-linear, and heuristic) to improve decision-making.
• Build, test, and deploy production-grade optimization algorithms and simulation models using Python and commercial/open-source solvers.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, and Business teams to integrate optimization engines into existing software systems and workflows.
• Develop machine learning models through all phases of development, from design through training, evaluation, validation, and implementation.
• Drive strategic business value by optimizing customer experience funnels, risk policies, and institutionalizing closed-loop experimental frameworks.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree plus 6 years of experience in data analytics, or Master’s Degree plus 4 years of experience in data analytics, or PhD plus 1 year of experience in data analytics.
• At least 2 years of experience in open-source programming languages for large-scale data analysis.
• At least 2 years of experience with machine learning.
• At least 2 years of experience with relational databases.

Preferred Qualifications

• PhD in a STEM field (Science, Engineering, Operations Research, or Mathematics) plus 2 years of experience in data analytics.
• At least 1 year of experience working with AWS.
• At least 4 years of experience in Python, Scala, or R for large-scale data analysis.
• At least 4 years of experience with machine learning.
• Experience in using numerical optimization to solve business problems, including linear, non-linear, and integer programming techniques and software packages.
• Track record of optimizing business outcomes and decision systems.
• Experience formulating business problems involving complex data, models, and policy rules.
• Working experience with time-series models.

Skills

• Strategic impact and experimental rigor, with a proven ability to evaluate external data and align predictive backtesting with live operational outcomes.
• Customer-first mindset, with a passion for making the right decisions for customers.
• Innovative, staying current on state-of-the-art methods and technologies, and seeking opportunities to apply them.

Pay

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below by location. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based on agreed-upon hours. Incentives may include performance-based cash bonuses and/or long-term incentives (LTI).

• McLean, VA: $197,300 - $225,100
• New York, NY: $215,200 - $245,600

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location.
