About the role

The Manager, Corporate Tax manages the tax compliance function for Highmark Health, Allegheny Health Network (AHN), affiliated tax-exempt entities, and related structures. Key responsibilities include preparing and filing tax returns, overseeing tax compliance processes, defending tax strategies, and communicating tax implications to finance, legal, and operational leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the tax function for the Company and its Affiliates, ensuring accurate tax calculations and filings.
  • Coordinate with external auditors and tax advisors, supporting audits and regulatory inquiries.
  • Communicate effectively with senior management to identify and implement tax strategies that align with business objectives.
  • Evaluate business activities and transactions to minimize tax liabilities and maximize opportunities.
  • Coordinate the resolution of tax controversies and lead the development and implementation of tax processes and procedures.

Requirements

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field, or relevant experience.
  • 7+ years of experience in tax compliance and planning, including experience with tax-exempt organizations.
  • 3+ years of management or leadership experience.

Qualifications

  • Proven leadership skills and ability to motivate others to achieve results in a matrixed environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, able to present complex topics to various levels of management.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local tax requirements impacting tax-exempt entities and partnerships.
  • Experience with healthcare systems and tax-exempt compliance considerations.
  • CPA, Master’s Degree in Taxation, MBA, JD, or relevant advanced certification preferred.
