About the role
This position is open for external candidates only to apply. Join the Construction Management Division at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) and lead complex, high-impact construction efforts that directly support national security.
Responsibilities
- Direct and coordinate field construction activities to ensure safe, compliant, high-quality execution.
- Review construction estimates, schedules, budgets, drawings, and specifications for constructability and cost effectiveness.
- Oversee craft and field execution staffing, materials, and field operations.
- Ensure all safety and security requirements are integrated into daily work, with authority to stop work when needed.
- Collaborate closely with Project Management, Design Engineering, Procurement, Project Controls, and other functional groups to align priorities and resolve issues.
- Provide guidance and coaching to Site Managers to support project success.
- Contribute expertise during project planning, proposal development, and review meetings involving budgets and schedules.
- Ensure field procedures and training programs are implemented appropriately.
- Monitor field-level distributable expenses and construction personnel performance.
- Foster a respectful, inclusive work environment free from discrimination and harassment.
- Support continuous improvement and effective communication across diverse teams and organizational levels.
Requirements
- Demonstrated success leading complex construction or program-management efforts, including scope, schedule, budget, risk, and change control.
- Thorough knowledge of construction operations, subcontract management, quality, technologies, and government compliance requirements.
- Ability to acquire resources, coordinate multi-discipline teams, resolve issues, analyze causes and effects, and drive constructive solutions.
- Strong interpersonal skills and experience coaching, leading, and engaging teams.
- Ability to communicate clearly with internal/external partners and present to senior leadership or federal sponsors.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Scientific discipline, Construction Management, Project Management, or related field, plus 5 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination.
- Previous DOE contractor experience delivering construction projects.
- Experience with nuclear quality standards (NQA-1).
- Familiarity with LANL construction operations, procedures, and union craft supervision.
