About the Role
The Manager, Compliance provides compliance oversight of RWJBarnabas Health, establishing and maintaining an effective Compliance Program to promote awareness of, and compliance with, applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures. This role reports to the Vice President, Compliance and involves oversight and management of compliance functions for the RWJBH Medical Group and affiliated ambulatory care services, including joint venture physician practices per contractual arrangement.
Responsibilities
- Creates and maintains the overall compliance framework, including policies, procedures, and training programs, in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations.
- Monitors day-to-day compliance activities, including management of Helpline matters, and participates in compliance monitoring and auditing processes to detect and address potential areas of non-compliance.
- Works closely with all departments for effective investigation, audits, resolution, reporting, and remediation of compliance issues.
- Provides compliance guidance to ensure Compliance direction is effectively executed.
- Develops, administers, and monitors Compliance education and training for all employees and other applicable individuals, in accordance with regulatory requirements.
- Provides specialized compliance education and training when necessary.
- Identifies, assesses, and mitigates compliance risks by conducting risk assessments, compliance audits, monitoring operations, and developing strategies to address potential issues.
- Assists the Corporate Compliance Department with the ongoing review and assessment in the development of the compliance work plan.
- Assists with the preparation of reports on compliance activities for the Audit and Compliance Committee, Compliance Steering Committee, senior management, and other stakeholders, highlighting key risks, trends, and areas for improvement.
- Stays up to date on relevant laws and regulations, ensuring the organization's practices align with these requirements.
- Performs other duties as assigned or directed by management.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in business, healthcare, or a related area of study.
- Minimum of five years of Compliance Program management experience or working experience in healthcare, specifically in Physician Practices, or related legal experience.
- Strong knowledge of healthcare compliance regulations with an in-depth understanding of relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards.
- Knowledgeable in provider documentation, coding, and revenue cycle compliance.
- Proficient in the use and navigation of electronic medical record applications and medical record review.
- Ability to identify, assess, and mitigate compliance risks.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for interacting with employees, management, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies.
- Demonstrated leadership and management skills to lead and motivate the Compliance team and coordinate with various departments and physician practices.
- Problem-solving and analytical skills; detail-oriented with the ability to analyze complex information, identify issues, and develop effective solutions.
- Detailed knowledge of federal and state statutes, regulations, policies, procedures, and guidance governing healthcare Compliance programs and operations.
- Strong understanding of healthcare Compliance programs and processes, with the ability to analyze issues, identify compliance risks, and oversee timely and effective remediation.
- Ability to clearly articulate requirements and complex compliance issues to senior leadership and impacted business units/departments.
- Expertise with federal and state regulatory audit processes and the ability to communicate effectively with auditors and regulators.
- Strong sense of ethics and integrity to ensure the organization adheres to regulatory requirements and operates in a compliant manner.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and be flexible and adaptable to change.
Qualifications
Preferred:
- Advanced degree (e.g., Master’s degree, ideally with an emphasis in healthcare administration, and/or Juris Doctor (JD)).
- Certification in Health Care Compliance and/or Certification in Medical Coding Audits.
Schedule
This position is located at the System Business Office in Oceanport, NJ, and requires travel to other corporate offices (Campus Drive, West Orange), multiple RWJBarnabas Health facilities, including the RWJBH Medical Group practices, ambulatory care service sites, and joint venture locations, as necessary.
Pay
The anticipated annual salary range for this position is $110,150.00 - $143,195.00 per year if hired to work in New Jersey. The compensation offered will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills, and professional experience.
