Manager, Complex Investigations Unit, BSA/AML & Sanctions Operations
for section headings (e.g. About the role, Responsibilities, Requirements, Qualifications, Skills, Benefits, Pay, Schedule). Do NOT repeat the job title as a heading (the page already shows it) and do NOT put Job ID / requisition numbers as headings — fold minor metadata into a short
or drop it. Preserve ALL substantive information; do NOT invent or summarize away detail. Remove cookie/navigation/legal/EEO/equal-opportunity/scam-warning boilerplate, duplicated lines, and application instructions. IMPORTANT: include a section ONLY when the posting has real, specific content for it — never emit a heading followed by filler/placeholder text (e.g. "commensurate with experience", "not specified", "N/A", "varies", "TBD") and never create Pay/Schedule/Benefits sections unless the posting actually states them. Prefer a few substantive sections over many thin ones. We need to include sections only if there is real specific content. The posting includes: - About the Role: description (the paragraph after "About the Role:"). - What You Will Do: responsibilities list (multiple bullet-like sentences). - What You Will Need: qualifications list. - Salary range: $72,000 – $120,000 plus performance incentive. - Benefits: comprehensive benefits package described. - Possibly also "Products & Services Knowledge" which is part of qualifications? It is more detail about knowledge needed; could be part of Requirements/Qualifications. We should not include Schedule (no info). So sections: About the role, Responsibilities, Requirements (or Qualifications), Benefits, Pay. We need to use
for each section heading. Use - for any list of duties/requirements/benefits. Use
for prose.
We must preserve all substantive information, not invent or summarize away detail. So we need to include the details from the posting.
We need to remove boilerplate: EEO, scam warning, application instructions, privacy policy, etc. Also remove duplicated lines.
We need to keep the company description at start? The first paragraph: "We are a hybrid, remote-office company dedicated to growing our talent anywhere! ..." That's substantive about company. Should we include it? It's not under a heading; maybe we can include as a
before sections. The instruction: do NOT repeat the job title as a heading (the page already shows it) and do NOT put Job ID / requisition numbers as headings — fold minor metadata into a short
or drop it. The company description is not a heading; we can keep it as a
at top.
We need to ensure we don't include any boilerplate like "Pathward is an equal employment opportunity employer..." etc. Remove those.
Also remove "Please click here to learn more about our benefits..." etc.
Also remove "Applications will be accepted for a minimum of 3 days after posting..." etc.
Also remove "Knowingly submitting false information..." etc.
Also remove "Candidate Scam Warning" etc.
Also remove "Who we are: Our commitment to inclusion..." maybe that's also boilerplate? It's somewhat similar to EEO but maybe considered substantive? It's about inclusion; but it's likely considered EEO boilerplate. Safer to remove.
We need to keep the "About the Role:" heading? Actually we should not repeat the job title as heading, but we can have a section heading "About the role". The posting already has "About the Role:" as a heading. We'll use
About the role
and then the paragraph.
Now responsibilities: The posting has "What You Will Do:" then a list of responsibilities grouped under headings: Complex Investigations & Escalation Management, People Leadership & Team Management, Investigative Oversight, SAR Quality & Documentation, Program Execution, Governance & Reporting, Cross-Functional Collaboration & Regulatory Support. Each has bullet-like sentences. We need to output a - for any list of duties/requirements/benefits. Should we break each sentence into separate
- ? Probably yes. The instruction: Use
- for any list of duties/requirements/benefits. So we need to create a list. We could group under subheadings? But we cannot add extra headings unless they are from the list (About the role, Responsibilities, Requirements, Qualifications, Skills, Benefits, Pay, Schedule). So we cannot add subheadings like "Complex Investigations & Escalation Management". We could just make a flat list of all responsibilities. That would preserve all substantive information (the sentences). That's acceptable.
Similarly for qualifications: "What You Will Need:" then a list of requirements: Bachelor's degree required..., CAMS..., 7+ years..., 2+ years..., Demonstrated experience..., Working knowledge..., Demonstrated success..., Strong writing..., Products & Services Knowledge (which is a long paragraph). We need to turn each bullet into
- . The "Products & Services Knowledge" is a long paragraph describing knowledge needed; we can treat it as a single
- containing that paragraph.
Benefits: "Pathward offers a comprehensive benefits package for eligible employees, including health insurance, 401(k) retirement benefits, life insurance, disability benefits, paid time off, and more." That's a sentence; we can make a
- list of those items? Or we can just put a
with that sentence. The instruction: Use
- for any list of duties/requirements/benefits. Since benefits are listed as a list (health insurance, 401(k)...), we could make a
- for each. But the sentence includes "and more". Might be okay to just put a
. However to follow instruction, we could make a
- for each item: health insurance, 401(k) retirement benefits, life insurance, disability benefits, paid time off. And maybe note "and more" as extra? Could include a
- saying "and more". But better to keep as
to avoid inventing. The instruction says use
- for any list of duties/requirements/benefits. The benefits are a list; we could make a
- for each item. That would be specific. Let's do that.
Pay: Salary range: $72,000 – $120,000 plus performance-based incentive. We need a Pay section. Use
Pay
and then maybe a with that info. Could also make a
- but it's not a list. Use
.
We must not include Schedule.
Now we need to ensure we don't include any filler like "commensurate with experience". Not present.
Now we need to output only HTML fragment, no /, no markdown.
Let's craft:

About the role
The Manager, Complex Investigations Unit leads a team of investigators responsible for the review, investigation, and resolution of complex and high-risk financial crime matters across AML, Sanctions, and Fraud domains. The role bridges investigative execution and program ownership: the Manager applies the escalation, quality, and documentation frameworks established by the VP, Complex Investigations, and ensures those standards are executed consistently by the Analysts performing the casework. The Manager serves as the day-to-day escalation point for multi-account, multi-entity, and cross-product matters, reviews and challenges SAR decisioning and narratives before final disposition, manages workload assignment and capacity, and develops investigator capability through coaching, calibration, and targeted training. The Manager is accountable for the quality, timeliness, and defensibility of the unit's investigative outputs under OCC, FinCEN, and internal program standards, and escalates novel typologies, systemic issues, and emerging risks to the VP, Complex Investigations.
Responsibilities
- Manage the intake, assignment, and resolution of complex and high-risk investigations across products and customer types, including multi-account, multi-entity, and cross-product matters.
- Serve as the day-to-day escalation point for urgent or high-severity matters, elevating to the VP, Complex Investigations where senior leadership awareness or immediate action is required.
- Apply and enforce established escalation and routing criteria, including handling of repeat SAR subjects, continuing activity, and examiner-, audit-, or enforcement-referred matters.
- Ensure appropriate identification of subjects, activity scope, and risk exposure across the unit's caseload.
- Identify emerging typologies, thematic issues, and potential control gaps surfaced through casework and escalate with supporting analysis and recommendations.
- Directly manage a team of Complex Investigations Analysts; assign work, manage capacity and coverage, and balance inventory against aging and regulatory timeliness requirements.
- Partner with People & Culture on hiring and staffing for the unit, including requisitions, interviews, and selection.
- Set performance expectations, conduct 1:1s and performance reviews, and deliver coaching and development plans; address performance issues with timely documentation and escalation.
- Build team capability through structured onboarding, ongoing coaching, and targeted training on typologies, investigative methods, and narrative quality.
- Promote a strong control culture, accountability, and adherence to procedures, desktop procedures, and checklists.
- Review and challenge investigative analyses, conclusions, and SAR/no-SAR determinations to confirm they are sound, defensible, and fully documented.
- Ensure SAR narratives, Continuing Activity Reports (CARs), and decisioning meet regulatory expectations and withstand examiner, audit, and law enforcement scrutiny.
- Confirm investigative documentation meets the five-element documentation baseline and internal quality standards prior to filing or closure.
- Oversee the unit's response to QC/QA feedback; drive remediation of identified defects and calibrate standards across analysts to reduce repeat findings.
- Support 314(a)/314(b), OFAC, and PEP-related investigative activity assigned to the unit.
- Execute the investigative standards, methodologies, and governance frameworks owned by the VP, Complex Investigations, and provide feedback to strengthen them.
- Monitor and report unit-level metrics, including inventory, aging, timeliness, SAR volumes, and quality results, to BSA/AML leadership.
- Support root cause analysis and remediation activities tied to investigations, escalations, audit findings, and MRAs.
- Maintain examiner-ready case artifacts and contribute to procedure, desktop procedure, and checklist updates as processes evolve.
- Partner with Sanctions Operations, Fraud Operations, Compliance Advisory, Legal, and Technology on cross-domain and sensitive high-risk matters.
