About the Role

The Manager of Commissioning Services is responsible for managing Team Leads and directing the day-to-day commissioning of robotic cells. This role involves planning and maintaining schedules, workforce allocation, and coordinating installation, engineering, and other commissioning managers. The Commissioning Manager ensures smooth handoffs and pre-commissioning validation with installation teams, schedules commissioning team members and contractors, reviews performance, maintains site status KPIs, and prepares reporting.

The Commissioning team plays a crucial role in ensuring the successful deployment of robotic systems by overseeing the beginning and final stages of system integration, testing, and optimization before the automation solution is put into operation. This team works closely with engineers and technicians to fine-tune robotics and automation systems, ensuring they meet performance standards, safety regulations, and customer requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with cross-functional business leaders to prep, plan, and launch the site commissioning schedule.
  • Manage and build out budgets for each site and prepare reporting on commissioning and testing progress relative to budget targets and goals.
  • Lead multiple sites at the commissioning stage while ensuring proper resource allocation to meet target timelines and budgets.
  • Present reports on commissioning and testing progress to site support teams and cross-functional leadership partners within Symbotic and for customers.
  • Develop, coach, and mentor Site Team Leaders and their direct reports.
  • Lead daily scrum meetings for the operational team and participate in site scrum meetings for team leaders and site managers.
  • Participate in continuous production improvement initiatives, standardization, and enhancement of installation and start-up processes while ensuring compliance with health and safety policies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, automated production management, or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience as a team leader in automated commissioning systems.
  • Expertise in Allen Bradley PLCs, Rockwell Automation platforms, and Siemens PLCs.
  • Skilled in HMI development and integration, and ABB and Fanuc robots.
  • Strong knowledge of Ethernet/IP, ProfiNet, and industrial networking protocols.
  • Proficient in PanelView Plus or similar interfaces, plus experience with Linux and Windows environments.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics and wiring diagrams, and experience with SQL and relational database management.
  • Capable of managing multiple tasks, documenting procedures, and providing leadership in problem resolution.
  • Proven experience in troubleshooting automated systems.
  • Self-starter with the ability to take on increased responsibilities in a fast-paced role.
  • Willingness to deepen knowledge of complex systems.
  • Excellent team player with the ability to collaborate across engineering teams.
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, startup environment.

Work Environment

This is a remote, field-based position requiring up to 75% travel. Employees must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to drive and/or fly to client and customer locations. The role involves performing work at customer installation locations for extended periods where equipment is installed and ready for commissioning.

  • Frequently required to walk and reach with hands and arms.
  • Routinely required to work at heights of up to 45 feet and within restrictive areas of 24 inches.
  • Must be able to stand; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Must comply with all safety requirements and protocols, including lockout/tagout and fall protection safety protocols.
  • Approximately 75% of time will be spent on a construction site with PPE required (hard hat, safety vest, steel-toe shoes, eyeglasses, ear protection, fall protection such as a safety harness).
  • Must navigate steep stairs to access the automation structure and routinely walk up and down stairs.
  • Regularly work near railings that are high off the ground.
  • Subject to environmental conditions, including protection from weather but not necessarily temperature changes.
  • Capable of working in temperatures ranging from 105°F to 32°F.

Pay

The base range for this position in the posted location is $125,000.00 - $171,600.00. Base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The compensation package includes medical, dental, vision, disability, 401K, PTO, and other benefits.
