About the Role
The Manager, Commercial Finance provides financial leadership and vision across the business to ensure financial commitments are achieved. This role acts as a business partner to the Commercial segment, offering analytical rigor and insight to drive profitable growth. It is critical in fostering financial accountability and acumen throughout the organization. This position is part of the Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) team and reports to the Director, Finance for Commercial and Supply Chain. The role includes coaching and developing team members.
Responsibilities
- Accountable for the financial management of IB’s shipment P&L, accounting for ~$1.5B in revenue, ~$300M+ in gross profit, and ~$70M in operating expenses.
- Assess and communicate key drivers of revenue growth to Commercial leadership; provide guidance and recommendations on levers to drive profitable revenue growth.
- Partner with the Commercial leadership team to ensure robust and fully-vetted pricing analytics; implement appropriate pricing actions.
- Responsible for customer profitability reporting and developing multi-step plans to realign profitability by customer.
- Analyze drivers of gross profit, including actionable volume, rate, and mix analytics.
- Responsible for return on investment analytics on Marketing spending; redirect investment dollars into higher-returning marketing platforms.
- Manage appropriate operating expenses with the Commercial team, including people costs and discretionary spend; instill a zero-based budgeting mindset.
- Oversee all phases of the financial planning and analysis (FP&A) function for the Commercial segment.
- Ensure timely and accurate periodic reporting of actual performance versus planned/forecast expectations and prior year performance; explain variances and recommend actions.
- Present financial results to Finance and Commercial leadership in Monthly Business Reviews.
- Accountable for all phases of the financial planning cycle, including data collection, consolidation, preparation, and maintenance of models and schedules.
- Analyze and explain trends inconsistent with plans/forecasts; communicate risks and opportunities to Commercial leadership and recommend corrective actions.
- Collaborate with Commercial leadership on developing, evaluating, and executing business initiatives; challenge decisions that may negatively impact IB’s financial standing.
- Serve as the financial thought leader for the Commercial segment and other functions; play a major role in developing new strategies.
- Lead and motivate the team, promoting a working environment aligned with IB's Purpose & Values.
- Participate in or lead other projects and duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required, with a focus in Finance, Accounting, or Economics preferred. MBA strongly preferred.
- 5+ years of professional finance experience.
- Strong business acumen with the ability to anticipate the impact of decisions and initiatives.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong negotiation skills and the ability to influence others, including senior leadership.
- Continuous improvement mindset.
- Demonstrated ability to lead dynamic teams.
- Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, PPT, Outlook); SAP experience is desirable.
- Experience with Power BI or Tableau and working with large data sets preferred.
Work Environment
Travel required up to 15%.
