Manager, Business Operations, North American Underwriting Group
Job Summary
This role is responsible for strategic oversight and management of underwriting operations across all lines of business, including stakeholder relationships, process optimization, and technology initiatives. Manages and develops high-performing teams while ensuring operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement of service delivery to underwriting departments.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Operational Management
- Manage and lead the day-to-day operational requirements for all lines of business
- Ensure all underwriting accounts are maintained according to underwriters' instructions and within specified timeframes through effective team management
- Develop and implement operational strategies and policies to improve efficiency and service delivery
Stakeholder & Vendor Management
- Oversee third party administrator relationships to ensure underwriters' service requirements are met and negotiate service level agreements
- Manage finance liaison relationships regarding payment queries and resolve escalated issues
- Represent the operations team in cross-functional meetings and strategic planning sessions
Reporting & Analytics
- Prepare and present comprehensive management reports for senior leadership and underwriting teams
- Provide strategic insights and recommendations based on operational data analysis
Technology & Process Improvement
- Lead digital transformation initiatives for underwriting department's e-filing systems and worksite databases
- Drive operational improvement projects and process enhancements across the department
Team Leadership & Development
- Recruit, train, mentor and performance manage team leaders and staff
- Manage departmental budget and resource allocation
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement and professional development
Qualifications
Minimum of six years insurance experience with at least three years in management or senior operational roles
Proven track record of leading and developing high-performing teams
Strong attention to detail and quantitative skills with advanced analytical capabilities
Excellent ability to work to deadlines and prioritize tasks across multiple projects
Advanced computer skills including proficiency in data analysis and reporting tools
Strong communication and presentation skills for senior stakeholder engagement
Experience with budget management and resource planning
Knowledge of regulatory requirements and compliance frameworks
Pay
The salary range for this role is between: $95,000 - $105,000
