About the role

The Manager, API Engineering Chapter Lead is responsible for overseeing the design, development, and testing of APIs and microservices within the organization. This role requires expertise in software development methodologies such as Agile, DevOps, and CI/CD, as well as experience in building AWS native applications and designing and implementing systems.

Responsibilities

  • Owns design, code, and test reviews throughout the product lifecycle to identify issues.
  • Serves as a technical consultant in project meetings and presents technical status and issues at milestone reviews.
  • Provides expert-level system analysis, development, and implementation of applications and databases, integrating third-party products and ensuring expected application performance levels.
  • Hires, evaluates, and supervises team members, providing guidance and training to support development, setting performance standards, conducting performance reviews, and making compensation decisions.
  • Works with product leaders and functional leads to align development resources with strategic goals.
  • Identifies potential solutions and reviews and approves technical solutions proposed by team members, elevating complex technical issues as needed, and resolving technical problems identified by testers and internal stakeholders, including performing root cause analysis and ensuring timely resolution.
  • Promotes consistency in knowledge, skills, and development practices by sharing best practices and common challenges, maintaining current knowledge of development methodologies and technical standards, and mentoring staff on adoption of new standards.
  • Communicates with stakeholders regarding project issues and implications, evaluates the impact of change requests on technologies, provides task and cost estimates, and contributes to technical decision-making.
  • Reviews and approves technical documentation and diagrams created by team members, developing and maintaining documentation, including technical standards and processes.
  • Identifies opportunities to improve technical standards, methodologies, and technologies to support continuous quality improvement.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of eight years related work experience, with at least three years of development experience.
  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of training and experience, with a graduate degree preferred.
  • Experience leading, mentoring, or supervising engineers.
  • Experience applying software development methodologies such as Agile, DevOps, and CI/CD.
  • Experience building AWS native applications.
  • Experience designing and building APIs and microservices.
  • Experience working with enterprise application architecture and system integration.
  • Experience programming in Java and Python and using frameworks.
  • Experience working with database management, performance optimization, and security practices.
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills, including conveying technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience leading and developing engineering teams and driving consistent development practices.
