About the Role
The Manager Ambulatory Education and Training will oversee the professional development and training for the clinic network. This role is responsible for developing and maintaining an overarching strategy to ensure clinic network team members (clinical and nonclinical) meet both skill and competency objectives. This role will provide direct supervision to staff, use evidence-based research to identify strategies and tactics for improving professional development activities, clinical practice, and patient outcomes and coordinate education initiatives with key clinic network stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and revise clinical education and learning needs throughout the clinic network using professional development standards
- Work collaboratively with the Clinic Leadership to orient and maintain the clinical competency of both licensed and non-licensed staff
- Support the orientation of new clinical employees, including the use of clinical systems needed to perform in their role and setting
- Seek experiences that reflect current theories and methods of teaching, learning, and delivery
- Coordinate, monitor and evaluate student experiences; work collaboratively with the student placement specialist and participating schools to maintain a high-quality student placement program
- Demonstrate continuing competence in area of specialty through certification maintenance, continuing education, and performance
- Use evidence-based practices in curriculum development; promote the use of evidence-based practices for educational program development
- Initiate and/or participate in research projects and implement findings, when appropriate
- Practice in a manner that is sensitive to cultural diversity
- Ensure that educational activities are congruent with the organization's Mission, Vision, Values and Goals and are based upon identified needs
- Develop and conduct educational programs, in collaboration with Clinic Leadership and the Medical Staff of the Network
- Develop operational budget and cost-benefit analyses for clinical training proposals, in conjunction with the Clinic Leadership
- Provide for the evaluation of the appropriateness and effectiveness of material resources and facilities as a component of each educational activity
- Maintain a record-keeping and report system maintaining confidentiality within legal and regulatory parameters
- Work with the Clinic Management team to maintain a continued state of readiness for all regulatory requirements
- Maintain a solid understanding of regulatory requirements
- Supervise professional development staff
- Participate as a clinical expert providing content expertise in the development, review and revision of Clinic Network policies and procedures as they relate to operations, as well as quality and safety improvement initiatives
- Act as Committee Chairperson or Co-chairperson as directed including but not limited to the Policy & Procedure Committee
- Collaborate with the Ambulatory Quality and Safety team to provide education & training guidance in relation to proposed workflows, questionnaires/forms and policy and procedures changes
- Provide clinical oversight of clinic network operations including MAs and other licensed technical positions who provide patient care
- Review scope of practice for each licensed clinical job class within the Clinic Network
- Participate in quality management programs
- Collaborate with Clinic Managers, Medical Directors, and Care Management Manager to facilitate learning experiences for students
- Determine the need for, the type, and the extent of supervision in educational practice
- Recruit, hire, develop, hold staff accountable to performance expectations and standards, coach and develop staff, discipline and terminate staff when necessary
- Prepare and present performance reviews
- Assure adequate staffing levels to meet department needs
- Develop an overarching education and training strategy for the clinic network in collaboration with clinic leaders
- Serve in key roles on committees and advisory boards
- Incorporate new models, techniques and theories related to nursing professional development and clinical practice
- Provide guidance, resources, and knowledge for professional growth of others
- Participate in community events as related to the role
- Collaborate with organizations and other professionals in teaching, consultation, management, research, leadership, facilitation, and change agent activities
- Collaborate with agencies and organizations as needed to achieve mutual educational goals
- Work within a multidisciplinary group to maintain standardization of services within the Clinic Network
- Use change management strategies and theories to drive desired outcomes
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in nursing, required
- Unrestricted active RN license to practice in WA State, required
- Minimum five (5) years relevant healthcare operations experience, required
- Minimum three (3) years leadership experience required, preferably in an ambulatory healthcare setting
- Minimum two (2) years experience coordinating or managing education program/curriculum design, development, implementation, and evaluation/assessment, required
- Minimum of one (1) year experience working in an electronic Medical Record, Epic preferred
Qualifications
- Experienced in professional development or nursing academic education
- Knowledge of adult learning principles, curriculum design, and change management processes
- Experience in a nursing or practice leadership role and staff consultation
- Experience with CQI and standards development
- Able to manage multiple demands and competing priorities
- Ability to collaborate and work in a multidisciplinary team environment, supporting staff members and management in maintaining and promoting a positive work environment cultivating open communication and teamwork with peers, other departments, and management staff
- Knowledge of ambulatory clinic operations, patient safety and quality regulatory requirements, Joint Commission accreditation guidelines and WA State rules and requirements as applicable
- Clinical content expert with ability to identify problems such as scope of practice, and handoff gaps
- Ability to proficiently work with Microsoft Office programs and use of scheduling software and other database computer programs, including educational training programs
- Self-motivated and results oriented
- Demonstrated leadership and relational skills with the ability to effectively communicate with a wide variety of healthcare personnel and internal/external stakeholders using verbal, written and presentation form
- Ability for problem solving and decision making
Work Environment
- Works at a computer for extended periods of time
- Ability to travel to various departments, including off-site locations, as needed for committee participation, site assessments, educational programs, and consultations
- Regularly participates in meetings at facilities related to leadership development, patient safety and quality programs
- This position may require irregular hours to meet regulatory, organizational, and internal program goals and deadlines
- Available for emergency consultations as needed during off-hours
Pay
Min $116,909 - Max $175,364/annual DOE
