About the role
The Manager, After-School Programs is a key leader within KIPP NYC's Regional After-School Programs team, responsible for ensuring the quality, compliance, and operational excellence of after-school programming across multiple schools.
Responsibilities
- Supervise, coach, and develop Program Directors to ensure consistent delivery of high-quality after-school programming across multiple school sites.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement through coaching, goal setting, observation, and ongoing feedback.
- Ensure after-school programming aligns with KIPP NYC's Graduate Aims, Positive Youth Development (PYD) principles, Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) competencies, and DYCD program standards.
- Support Program Directors in designing engaging experiences that promote academic enrichment, leadership development, social-emotional growth, and joyful student learning.
- Drive consistency and excellence across all after-school programs while honoring the unique needs of individual school communities.
- Build strong partnerships with Principals, school leadership teams, Program Directors, families, and community organizations.
- Serve as a trusted partner to schools by providing responsive, solutions-oriented support that strengthens program implementation and student outcomes.
- Support regional and school-based family engagement efforts that foster strong partnerships with caregivers and communities.
- Ensure all after-school programs remain compliant with Department of Health (DOH), Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD), and KIPP NYC operational requirements.
- Lead mock site visits and readiness assessments to prepare schools for compliance reviews and audits.
- Provide on-site leadership and operational support during compliance visits and other critical events.
- Conduct regular audits of program documentation, operational systems, and compliance records.
- Monitor program implementation and proactively identify opportunities to strengthen systems and operational effectiveness.
- Use observational data, family and student feedback, program metrics, and site performance data to evaluate program quality.
- Partner with Program Directors to develop action plans that improve student engagement, program quality, and operational performance.
- Monitor trends across schools and recommend strategies that strengthen after-school programming network-wide.
- Support a culture of continuous improvement by using data to inform decision-making and resource allocation.
- Design and facilitate professional learning experiences for Program Directors and Assistant Program Directors.
- Build leadership capacity through coaching, mentoring, and ongoing development opportunities.
- Support implementation of regional initiatives, operational systems, and best practices across all after-school sites.
- Collaborate with regional departments and external partners to strengthen programming and operational systems.
- Maintain flexibility to work evenings and occasional weekends to support after-school programming, family events, trainings, and special initiatives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
- Minimum of five years of leadership experience in after-school, expanded learning, youth development, recreation, or related educational programs.
- Experience supervising and coaching adults to improve performance and achieve ambitious goals.
- Strong knowledge of Department of Health (DOH), Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD), and Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) requirements governing after-school programming.
- Demonstrated success leading program operations, compliance, and continuous improvement initiatives across multiple sites.
- Experience using data to evaluate program quality, identify trends, and drive strategic decision-making.
- Strong organizational and project management skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to build and sustain productive relationships with school leaders, families, community partners, and regional stakeholders.
- Demonstrated flexibility, sound judgment, initiative, and a solutions-oriented mindset.
