About the Role
The Mammography Coordinator assists in the work of the mammography department and facilitates patient continuity of care between hospital departments and programs for patients with breast health concerns. This role supports Virtua's mission and values, ensuring adherence to all policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Work with surgeons, radiologists, radiation oncologists, and physicians to provide quality care to patients with breast health concerns.
- Rotate to all locations that perform mammography services.
- Schedule all patients who may need additional imaging based on their screening mammogram.
- Schedule diagnostic mammograms, breast ultrasounds, breast MRIs, breast biopsies, and any 6-month follow-up imaging.
- Contact the referring physician’s office to request slips, add, or change exams.
- Review and track all biopsy results and facilitate hand-off to Clinical Navigators.
- Serve as a resource for women with breast health concerns, including teaching breast self-examination and answering questions.
- Provide breast health lectures as needed.
- Educate patients on what to expect before, during, and after diagnostic and treatment procedures.
- Evaluate the patient’s physical and emotional recovery after treatment and utilize appropriate resources as needed.
- Develop and revise patient educational materials.
- Participate in professional growth and development opportunities by attending meetings, conferences, and courses.
- Meet with patients in-person at the time of study to provide support and guidance if necessary.
- Recommend quality and/or process improvement initiatives to enhance job functions.
- Perform mammography scans in emergency situations if called upon.
Requirements
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a Mammography Technologist with knowledge of MQSA/FDA standards.
- Graduate of an accredited school of Radiology Technology.
Qualifications
- Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (A.R.R.T.).
- NJDEP licensure required.
- Advanced certification in Mammography by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (A.R.R.T.).
- CPR certification desired.
