The primary purpose of this position is to build meaningful, strategic relationships to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward individual major donors, charitable trusts, and family foundations. The Major Gifts Officer (MGO) strategically manages all fundraising activities for an assigned portfolio of donors and prospects. As a key member of the American Indian College Fund’s Resource Development team, this role is critical in helping the organization meet annual revenue goals that support strategic initiatives and long-term sustainability. This position must embody and actively reflect the College Fund’s core values of respect, reciprocity, reasoning, reasoning, relationships, and responsibility. The Major Gifts Officer works collaboratively within Resource Development and across departments to coordinate efforts and achieve team and organizational objectives. Sound reasoning, accountability, and strategic decision-making are essential to success in this role. Essential Job Functions Builds strategic relationships with donors in an assigned fundraising portfolio of up to 150 donors to meet individual and organizational goals.Builds strong, personal, productive individual relationships with people interested in supporting the College Fund’s missionBuilds strong, productive networks with and among people who are or might be interested in the College Fund’s missionDevelops strategic and ongoing action plans for every donor in portfolioTracks the status of donors and modifies stewardship/cultivation plan as neededEnters all donor information/actions into donor databaseConsistently monitors status of fundraising goals and performance metricsConsistently meets or exceeds individual fundraising goalsMakes data-driven decisions in management of portfolio with a focus on meeting individual fundraising goals, organization business and strategic objectives, and return on investmentDevelops donation-focused relationships with current and prospective donorsCommunicates with prospective and current major donors frequently and consistently throughout fiscal yearEngages in creative and frequent interactions with donors in portfolioAppropriately follows up with every donor based on results of active correspondenceProvides information through diverse and strategic touch pointsFinalizes all reporting documents and manages the presentation of gift reports to donorsStrengthens/develops relationships with regional stakeholders Implements innovative solutions and ideas to optimize fundraising potentialConsistently creates new avenues for donor relationship and solicitationShares innovative ideas with Resource Development (RD) team membersFully engages with available resources to qualify, identify, and cultivate prospective major donors as well as continually evaluate the potential of current major donors Consistently maintains recordkeeping in organization databasesRecords all activities related to new, current and prospective donors in donor databaseMonitor donor pledges, gift agreements, and reporting deadlines to ensure compliance and stewardship integrityCollaborate with internal teams to support scholarship funding alignment and donor intent documentation as applicable, including communicating scholarship parameters through scholarship management databaseSupport grant management processes in partnership with the grantwriting team, including coordination of proposals and reports through donor database.Completes other duties as assigned Job Requirements Competencies Excellent written and verbal communication skillsAbility to work well within a diverse team and across departmentsFlexibility to adapt to a fast-paced and dynamic work environmentExperience with managing a fundraising portfolio, organizing and meeting deadlines with responsibility for financial goalsDemonstrated success in timely closing major gifts ranging from $10,000-$1,000,000+ from individuals, corporations, and foundationsFamiliarity and demonstrated success in using analytics to drive major donor relationshipsProficiency in Microsoft Office SuiteKnowledge of donor relational database softwareKnowledge of and/or interest in learning about American Indian educationFamiliarity with national philanthropic sector and understanding of concepts and trends within philanthropyAbility to work respectfully across differences in identity, background, and lived experience, both internally and externallyThrives in a fast-paced work environment Education/ Experience Bachelor’s degree required4+ years of major gift fundraising experience or 7+ years of related experience in the areas of fundraising, sales, or relationship management Work Environment and Physical Activities Professional office setting Significant air and car travel Frequent keyboarding Note: The intent is not to provide an exhaustive list of all duties, responsibilities, or qualifications associated with this position.
