POSITION: Maintenance Worker/Security Guard, On-Call
About the role
Under the direct supervision of the Administrative Assistant III, SF, the Maintenance Worker (MW) is tasked with assisting in the maintenance and upkeep of the San Francisco building and immediate surroundings. This role involves participating in various maintenance activities, which includes but is not limited to, proper maintenance, repair and renovation. This position performs a wide variety of skilled repairs and construction work in the building, plumbing, carpentry, flooring, furniture, fixtures, electrical/electronic, related equipment and systems.
Responsibilities
- Manage the upkeep, repair, construction for improvement of all building, leased spaces, structural surfaces, and all facility-related equipment and systems of NAHC.
- Under the direction of the AA III, act as a point person for building matters, ensure the agency is building code compliance. Work with inspectors and other external contractors as needed.
- Interact and communicate with vendors and contractors including those involved in capital and tenant improvement projects to ensure cost efficiency. Acquire bids and estimates for capital improvements making sure they meet industry standards.
- Act as day-to-day project manager for major renovation projects by working closely with AAA III and contractors, keeping management apprised of progress.
- Develop preventative maintenance program to troubleshoot NAHC equipment in house, repair where possible. Train and mentor staff as needed in order to perform these skills on a regular basis as applicable.
- Perform building inspections to ensure that the common areas are properly utilized, orderly, and secure; this includes the interior and exterior of all properties.
- Develop and maintain an inventory of NAHC equipment and furniture by site and organization. Purchases equipment and services as necessary for operations, maintenance and repairs. Track utilization of equipment and ensure equipment is accounted for at all times.
- Perform minor to semi-skilled to highly-skilled repair, rebuilding, painting, carpentry, plumbing, basic electrical or construction work.
- Troubleshoot or perform maintenance work on various electrical or electronic systems, machinery, and equipment in all NAHC locations.
- Interact and maintain close working relationships with Site Directors, clinical operations directors, administrative assistants, and facilities staff. Collaborate with administrative assistants to determine timelines and priorities for maintenance tasks. Ensure tasks are completed in a timely manner and communicate updates to administrative assistant.
- Maintain information about basic structural data, including the location of fire equipment, water main, sprinkler shutoff valve, gas main, fuse box or circuit breaker, and heat controls. Oversee the coordination space allocation and layout of workspaces for employees.
- Aid in establishing guidelines and best practices policies and procedures for management and employees to facilitate proper and safe use of various equipment and systems. Make recommendations or changes to improve current practices.
- Meet with administrative assistant to apprise them of facility related issues and updates and for guidance and accountability as needed.
- Security Patrol premises, actively observe and monitor all visitors to the facility, and address any suspicious behavior that could be in violation of NAHC policies. Assist in de-escalating upset people and if necessary, escort them out of the premises.
- Work in tandem with the Safety Committee to stay up to date on safety and emergency preparedness principles. Assist NAHC staff and members during an emergency. Maintain order, direct staff and members to safety location and ensure building is evacuated.
- General The Maintenance Worker/Security Guard may work occasional evenings and weekends to meet project timelines.
Qualifications
- Safely performs all duties; follows required protective protocols to ensure personal safety as well the safety of others.
- Maintain compliance with ergonomic safety standards; be mindful of posture and regularly practice ergonomic stretches.
- Participate in internal quality improvement teams and work with members proactively to drive quality improvement initiatives in accordance with the mission and strategic goals of the organization, federal and state laws and regulations, and accreditation standards, when assigned.
- Keep all protected health information (PHI) confidential and abide by HIPAA policies for the release and disclosure of any PHI. Report unauthorized use of disclosure of PHI immediately, to supervisor or HIPAA security officer.

Skills
- Skilled in various maintenance and repair tasks including plumbing, carpentry, electrical, and construction.

Pay
Salary range: $20 - $25 per hour, commensurate with experience.
