The Community Services Department - Roads & Stormwater Division is currently accepting applications for Intermittent (hourly) Maintenance Worker - Roads positions.

About the Role

Under supervision, performs a variety of semiskilled road maintenance and minor construction work on County roads; and performs related work as required.

Responsibilities

  • Performs basic road maintenance and construction tasks including asphalt, ditch cleaning, signage and weed control.
  • May hold flagging and traffic control responsibilities.

Requirements

  • One year of previous full-time experience in performing basic road maintenance or construction work; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A valid driver’s license is required at the time of appointment and must be maintained for continued employment in this classification.
  • A valid Class A commercial driver’s license (CDL) with a tank endorsement must be obtained within six months of date of appointment. Continued employment is contingent upon maintaining a valid Class A CDL with a tank endorsement (This requirement is not applicable for seasonal/temp positions).

Qualifications

  • The Ideal Candidate Will Have Experience working in road maintenance including asphalt, ditch cleaning, signage and weed control.
  • An American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA) certification is highly desirable.
  • A Commercial Driver License (CDL) is highly desirable.

Schedule

This is a seasonal/temporary position with no guarantee of hours per week/month.

Conditions of Employment

  • Background checks will be conducted on selected applicants through the State of Nevada and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
  • Selected applicants will be required to submit to a medical examination. The cost of the examination will be covered by Washoe County.
  • Employees are required to reside in the state of Nevada or neighboring California communities such as Truckee, South Lake Tahoe or Susanville as of their first day of work.
