Maintenance Worker I

About the role

Wise County, VA is accepting applications for a full-time Maintenance Worker I position in the county maintenance department.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and advanced building and ground maintenance tasks.
• Conduct preventive maintenance and inspection of roofs and guttering.
• Handle grounds maintenance including operation of industrial mowers, trimming, weeding, and raking.
• Perform painting and general carpentry on building structures (walls, floors, masonry).
• Carry out general housekeeping duties.
• Work on a 24‑hour call basis.
• Work overtime as needed.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent recommended.
• Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience.
• Knowledge of building and ground maintenance, cleaning, and upkeep.
• Ability to use maintenance supplies and equipment economically and efficiently.
• Significant experience in construction trades preferred.
• Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written directions.
• Ability to interpret blueprints, plans, and/or sketches preferred.
• Thoroughness, dependability, and good physical condition required.
• Working knowledge of electrical, HVAC, and basic plumbing.
• Class C contractor’s license preferred.
• Electrical and HVAC certification preferred.

Pay

Expected salary range is $37,440 – $41,600, depending on qualifications.

Schedule

• Full‑time position.
• 24‑hour call required.
• Overtime as needed.
