Maintenance Worker
About the Role
Children’s Aid-Goodhue Center is looking to hire a part-time Maintenance Worker as part of the Center’s Maintenance team. The Maintenance Worker will help the team keep the location clean, compliant, and operational. The incumbent will understand and promote the organization’s Mission, Vision, and Core Values to ensure alignment with the functions of the position.
Children’s Aid Mission
To help children in poverty to succeed and thrive. We do this by providing comprehensive support to children and their families in targeted high-needs New York City neighborhoods. Children’s Aid annually serves children and their families at over 40 sites in New York, as well as through three national program models. Children’s Aid is concentrating its efforts on creating cradle-through-college pathways in high-need neighborhoods, with a focus on children’s health, family stability, education, and social and emotional development.

Responsibilities
- Perform routine manual tasks in maintaining the cleanliness, sanitary conditions, and appearance of buildings and grounds.
- Clean bathrooms, offices, hallways, and any other assigned areas by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and polishing.
- Empty and decontaminate trash containers.
- Move, rearrange, and dust furniture and fixtures.
- Sweep sidewalks, porches, and tiled surfaces.
- Maintain equipment; report need for painting and minor building or equipment repair to supervisor.
- Cut grass, trim shrubs, water plants, and perform other related duties on the grounds when assigned.
- Perform custodial-related duties necessary to maintain cleanliness and sanitary conditions.
- Report building or equipment repairs to supervisor; advise Maintenance Supervisor on all maintenance and repair problems.
- Monitor supply inventory on floor.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Health and Safety
- Maintain a healthy and safe environment (e.g., safely store cleaning supplies and equipment, mark wet floors).
Requirements
- High School Graduate/GED or prior relevant work experience may suffice in lieu of High School diploma/GED.
- Team-oriented approach.
- Willingness to learn new skills while improving current ones.
- Ability to lift or carry 20 lbs.
Skills
- Professional, resourceful, dependable, and approachable.
- Experience in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint preferred.
- Pleasant verbal and written communication skills.
- Reliable and responsive nature.
- Ability to respond well to taking directions and develop strong cleaning skills.
Pay
$17.00 - $18.00 / hour
Schedule
The incumbent is expected to work a schedule, whether in-person or hybrid, as determined by the department's needs to facilitate effective collaboration with the team. This flexibility is essential for maintaining seamless communication, fostering teamwork, and ensuring the smooth operation of the department's processes.
