Maintenance Trainee III

About the role

The incumbent will work independently as well as assist other maintenance personnel with all required tasks. This position involves working in both unoccupied and occupied apartment units and requires frequent, direct contact with residents, maintenance staff, and administrative personnel. A positive, professional attitude is essential during all interactions, promoting goodwill within the community in alignment with the Rockford Housing Authority’s objectives and values.

Responsibilities

• Perform general cleaning duties in RHA offices, restrooms, common areas, and preparing vacant units for management.
• Conduct daily grounds maintenance and tasks as directed.
• Handle general maintenance work, including minor electrical (up to 120v), plumbing, carpentry, appliance repairs, and hardware repairs.
• Clear snow and ice from buildings and sidewalks by shoveling, salting, or sanding; may operate motorized equipment.
• Assist management with property inspections.
• Support RHA staff and contractors with moving heavy objects such as appliances, furniture, materials, and equipment.
• Read and comprehend instructions when completing assigned tasks.
• Respond to after-hours emergencies as required.
