About the role
Set up, adjust, operate, and maintain various automated production equipment in a modern and complex food production facility. Coordinate, schedule, and execute planned and day-to-day activities of the Maintenance Department to ensure the plant meets department and overall goals of safety, quality, and productivity. Oversee and train maintenance technicians while ensuring compliance with all federal, state, local, BRC, and company rules and regulations, with a focus on plant safety.
Responsibilities
- Schedule and prioritize planned work orders alongside day-to-day maintenance issues.
- Record and report daily activities to the maintenance supervisor and during shift handoff meetings.
- Provide direction and training to maintenance technicians as needed.
- Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain plant machinery and equipment, including:
- Control devices such as switches, photo eyes, proximity sensors, pushbuttons, contactors, and motor starters.
- Roaster components such as burners, valves, bearings, and scrapers.
- Hydraulic, pneumatic, and basic electrical power components.
- Perform work order repairs, inspections, adjustments, and preventative/predictive maintenance tasks.
- Set up and operate metal working equipment, including hand tools, welders, drill presses, sheet metal equipment, and grinders.
- Collaborate with production and warehouse personnel to resolve and eliminate plant and process problems.
- Cross-train with maintenance and production teams to ensure adequate coverage across all shifts.
- Assist management in developing standard operating procedures and duty cycles for repairs and maintenance related to process and packaging equipment.
- Interpret and understand plans, specifications, schematics, and operating/maintenance manuals for systems under oversight.
- Participate in plant safety, BRC, health, and environmental programs.
- Perform all other assigned duties, responsibilities, and special projects.
Requirements
- Technical College/PLC Certification or higher education.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a Consumer-Packaged Goods (CPG) environment, with in-depth knowledge of high-speed liquid filling in a large bottling or canning establishment.
- Experience with retorts/pasteurizers, fillers, depalletizers, packers, cartoners, shrink wrappers, coding machines, 3-phase motors, gearboxes, bearings, solenoid valves, vacuum pumps, chains, sprockets, belts, rollers, star wheels, pneumatics, chillers, contactors, relays, fuses, breakers, photoelectric sensors, and ultrasonic sensors.
- Certification as a CMT-2 through IMI (International Maintenance Institute) within 6 months of placement.
- Validation from management as a "subject matter expert" on in-house equipment.
- Certification in welding.
- Ability to read and understand complex instructions, prints, flowcharts, timing diagrams, and schematics.
- Strong communication skills to relay instructions clearly to personnel ranging from upper management to hourly associates.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups, customers, vendors, or employees.
Preferred Qualifications
- CMRT certification.
- Industrial Electrician Certification.
- 8+ years of manufacturing maintenance experience in a food-grade facility.
- Allen Bradley VFD training.
- Experience fabricating various plastics and metals into shapes and structures as needed.
