Maintenance Technician II (SugarCreek)

About the Role

Perform routine maintenance and repairs to keep machines and mechanical equipment operating efficiently and safely. Coordinate with Operation Management to establish maintenance schedules that minimize production downtime.

Responsibilities

• Perform troubleshooting and corrective maintenance on equipment, including inspecting, operating, or testing machinery to diagnose electrical and mechanical malfunctions.
• Dismantle and rebuild machinery, equipment, and field devices to access and remove defective parts using hoists, cranes, hand tools, or power tools.
• Perform routine preventative and predictive maintenance, such as inspecting drives, motors, or belts, checking fluid levels, replacing filters, and verifying findings of lower-level technicians.
• Utilize prints, repair manuals, wiring diagrams, and parts catalogs as necessary.
• Repair machines, equipment, or structures using tools such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills, wrenches, or precision measuring instruments and electronic testing devices.
• Maintain and troubleshoot relay logic, including control field devices, contactors, starters, limit switches, proximity sensors, photo eyes, VFDs, HMIs, interlock safety devices, etc.
• Review and complete work orders timely, conducting necessary maintenance or repairs as needed.
• Follow Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures at all times and ensure all Maintenance Personnel adhere to LOTO procedures.
• Maintain positive working relationships with all departments and sustain constant communication with Plant Management regarding maintenance issues.
• Engage in continued education and training in related multi-craft skills.
• Complete daily reports outlining maintenance or repairs conducted during the shift.
• Comply with federal, state, and company policies, procedures, and regulations.
• Support all safety, food quality, and sanitation initiatives and policies.
• Follow SugarCreek safety rules and procedures.
• Perform other duties and tasks as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent (GED), or equivalent experience; vocational training or associate degree with an electro-mechanical focus preferred.
• 2+ years of experience in a maintenance role with automated equipment preferred.
• 2+ years of experience in a maintenance role with electrical and electronic responsibilities preferred.
• 2+ years of experience in a maintenance role in a food manufacturing setting preferred.

Skills

• Knowledge of machines, diagnostic tools, and hand tools, including their designs, uses, and proper maintenance.
• Ability to communicate complex information effectively to other employees.
• Effective troubleshooting skills to diagnose mechanical, controls, and electrical issues.
• Proficiency in basic computer programs like Microsoft Office.
• Ability to become a subject matter expert (SME) over a single site asset or industry-standard skill.
• Strict adherence to all safety procedures and policies.
• Use of logic and reasoning to identify alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
• Safe and efficient operation of industrial-size equipment.
• Adequate hand dexterity to manipulate or move objects.
• Ability to work well with others in a team environment.

Physical Requirements

• Mostly standing/walking with little sitting required.
• Physical activity includes using stairs or lifting/moving items weighing less than 60 lbs.
• Safety wear required, including hard hat, hairnet, hearing protection, safety glasses, steel toe boots, coats, and other necessary equipment.

Work Environment

• Some travel to other locations may be required.
• Most work performed in an indoor manufacturing facility with close proximity to heavy and hazardous machinery.
• Little work performed in a comfortable, indoor office-like facility or outdoors.
