Maintenance Technician I - Bloomfield, IA
About the role
This role is a dedicated, on-site maintenance technician responsible for one farm (or a small set of farms) reporting to production operations leadership. The technician completes minor maintenance and repairs of swine facilities and equipment for Iowa Select Farms.
Responsibilities
- Adhere to ISF bio-security, animal wellbeing, and safety policies and procedures; report any violations to the management team.
- Utilize the ISF Tools work ticket system to track all repairs and materials.
- Demonstrate general trade knowledge, including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and welding.
- Prioritize maintenance and repair items, focusing on animal welfare (feed, water, air/ventilation, containment).
- Be available for emergency maintenance needs on weekends.
- Complete routine preventative maintenance for facilities and equipment.
- Manage and maintain an on-site parts inventory for routine repairs.
- Repair and/or replace:
- Curtain systems
- Penning areas (fabricate, weld, and repair)
- Feedline systems
- Ventilation systems
- Waterlines
- Building roof, siding, or ceiling material
- Light fixtures, receptacles, and electric motors
- Heating and cooling systems
- Operate heavy machinery (e.g., backhoe, mowers, snow blowers, hydro clean machine, tractors, manure tanks, trucks, and trailers).
- Assist in the repair of well water pumps, water meters, regulators, sewer lines, etc.
- Assist in seasonal tasks such as snow removal, mowing, weed spraying, and maintaining general site appearance.
- Keep production locations free from debris in and around the site(s).

Work Environment
This position is primarily performed indoors but may require tasks in extreme outdoor weather conditions. Duties span all Iowa Select Farms facilities, exposing employees to various environments, including:
- Loud noise levels
- Exposure to fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibrations
- Nuisance levels of gases and dust, particularly in winter months
- Direct contact with animals (bio-security practices must always be followed)
Physical Requirements
- Stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle tools/objects, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively.
- Lift up to 75 pounds and climb ladders or gates.
- Continuously repeat movements such as bending, lifting, and varied hand motions.
Additional Requirements
- Work with limited or no supervision; must be self-motivated, organized, and dependable.
- Mechanically minded with the ability to troubleshoot a wide variety of issues.
- Team-oriented with strong communication skills.
- Basic computer and smartphone skills.
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
Schedule
This is a full-time, on-site position requiring at least 40 hours per week. Additional availability may be required during staffing challenges. Weekend and holiday on-call rotations are mandatory.
Qualifications
- Previous maintenance experience preferred but not required.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish (written and verbal) preferred but not required.
