Maintenance Technician - Facilities

About the role

Open to any current regular Municipal employee working within the Anchorage Fire Department. If the person selected is not affiliated with the International Association of Fire Fighters – Local 1264 union, he or she must become a member in good standing within 30 days of beginning work.

Responsibilities

• Monitoring emergency operations
• Observing and evaluating training evolutions
• Inspecting facilities, equipment, and apparatus
• Performing preventative, remedial, and investigative tasks
• To prevent accidents and injuries and ensure compliance with the Department's Risk Management Plan
• May be required to respond during off duty hours to multiple alarm emergencies or other special situations

Requirements

• Associate’s degree in Fire Science or related field and seven years of any combination of fire suppression, fire prevention, emergency medical service, and/or fire training experience, one year of which must have been as a company officer in the Anchorage Fire Department or equivalent
• Valid driver’s license
• Valid State of Alaska Firefighter I or equivalent, AFD Chief Safety Officer Certification, and AFD Battalion Chief Certification (must attach a copy)

Qualifications

• Additional experience in the fields listed above may substitute for the degree requirement on a year for year basis for the non-specific experience
