Maintenance Technician

About the Role

We are seeking a Maintenance Technician for our Thalia Gardens community in Virginia Beach, VA. This role is essential to ensuring residents have a safe, comfortable, and attractive place to live by maintaining all electrical and mechanical equipment, appliances, and structures.

Responsibilities

• Abide by Fair Housing Laws.
• Respond to residents’ service calls, completing tasks such as:
• Plumbing repairs
• Laying and repairing tile
• Installing and repairing drywall
• Repairing electrical switches
• Occasional functions include:
• Mending fences
• Assisting with HVAC and refrigeration repairs
• Cutting keys
• Trash pickup
• Lawn care
• Swimming pool cleaning
• Shampooing carpets

Requirements

• Ability to read and write English.
• Prior experience reflecting overall general mechanical aptitude and ability.
• Valid Driver’s License (if operating a vehicle).
• EPA Certificate for Freon Recovery; HVAC Certificate.
• Current Fair Housing Certification.

Qualifications

• Advanced training, such as that obtained from a mechanical/supervising trade or technical school (preferred).
• Prior experience as Service Manager for a multi-unit property (preferred).

Physical Demands

• Physical activities include walking, bending, stooping, reaching, kneeling, crawling, stretching, climbing stairs or ladders, and standing for periods of time.
• Exposure to inclement weather, noise, dust, heat, and mechanical equipment.
• Exposure to potentially dangerous products and chemicals.
• Heavy lifting.

General

Hours worked will coincide with the community’s hours of operation. This position may require responding to after-hours emergency calls and may be placed on a rotating schedule for evening, weekend, and holiday service calls.
