Responsibilities
- Maintain all aspects of Camp property and equipment according to Camp best practices.
- Use critical thinking to detect maintenance needs, prioritize those needs, and make most efficient use of maintenance time, tools, and material.
- Manage the utilization of current maintenance, work order, and timekeeping software.
- Operate, maintain, and repair gas or electric powered lawn care equipment such as lawn mowers, weed-eaters, chain saws, edging equipment, and blowers.
- Install, operate, and repair pumping equipment used in water activities.
- Properly use ladders, climbing safety equipment, work on rooftops or other high elements.
- Safely operate power tools such as drills, saws, jack hammer, and any other tools needed; use hand tools.
- Perform routine pool maintenance, repair, cleaning, vacuum, and control chemical water balance.
- Diagnose, repair, and install electrical components such as switches, GFIs, outlets, lights, breakers, and motors.
- Receive and follow maintenance schedule/instructions from supervisor in accordance with established maintenance policies and procedures; perform unscheduled maintenance tasks as directed.
- Perform routine maintenance and repair on the facility, grounds, and equipment in a safe and serviceable manner including plumbing, plastering, electrical, carpentry, painting, mechanical, etc.
- Maintain good timekeeping using current Camp policy; stay current with Buckner policy by taking advantage of training opportunities offered or required.
- Replace and repair broken light fixtures, light bulbs, and ceiling fans.
- Service heating and cooling units/systems as specified by the manufacturer and in compliance with established policies and procedures.
- Service and repair kitchen equipment including but not limited to ice machines, refrigeration, cooking and baking equipment, food prep supplies, and fryers.
- Maintain and operate heavy equipment such as tractor, mower, bobcat, backhoe, etc.
- Monitor and maintain all camp vehicles including repair, service schedule, and cleanliness.
- Assist in moving equipment and furniture as directed; ensure work areas are cleaned and organized.
- Properly store equipment, tools, and supplies; keep work areas free of hazardous conditions and follow all safety rules/regulations.
- Report all incidents/accidents, no matter how minor, to the supervisor or other appropriate personnel immediately.
- Wear protective clothing/devices as directed; immediately turn in all found items to your supervisor.
- Perform general office tasks as required.
Requirements
- Ability to understand and follow basic written and oral step-by-step instructions.
- High School Diploma (or G.E.D.) preferred.
- Minimum 2 years prior related janitorial and maintenance experience preferred.
- Ability to acquire and maintain a Class D or higher groundwater license for maintaining and operating the public water system within 12 months of hire; current valid groundwater license is preferred.
- Ability to acquire and maintain a Certified Pool Operators certificate within 6 months of hire; current valid certificate is preferred.
- Proficient ability to speak, read, and write English.
- Ability to speak clearly and make self clearly understood in face-to-face interactions and on the phone.
- Excellent organization and communication skills, both oral and in writing.
- Personality attuned to meeting the needs of guests and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with trustees, employees, donors, and the public.
- Ability to relate positively, influentially, and sensitively to a broad spectrum of persons in a variety of multi-tiered relationships and settings.
- Ability to drive assigned vehicle(s) or personal vehicle with an appropriate state license, following all laws applicable; must provide proof of liability insurance and must be eligible to be insured under Buckner’s insurance policy.
- Ability to rent vehicles both domestically and internationally using required documentation; must be age 21 or older to drive on behalf of Buckner.
