Maintenance Technician - Anchorage, AK (FFM)

About the Role

This position carries out activities required to maintain and repair facilities throughout Alaska, including inspection and repair of machinery and equipment within assigned facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Performs skilled maintenance and repair on mechanical and electrical equipment, including testing and replacing circuits, troubleshooting defective switches, receptacles, ballasts, and other wiring.
  • Performs a variety of skilled building maintenance tasks, including repairs to doors, windows, roofs, drywall, carpet, flooring, and other building equipment and parts.
  • Constructs and assembles furniture and other wood and metal structures.
  • Installs and maintains lock systems.
  • Installs and services standard plumbing fixtures, piping, drains, and supply lines.
  • Paints, cleans, and degreases walls, equipment, and other surfaces as necessary.
  • Performs framing and finish carpentry repairs, including hanging cabinets, fixtures, and pictures.
  • Handles drywall installation/repairs and painting.
  • Performs carpet/tile installation and repair.
  • Conducts concrete installation and repair.
  • Cleans work area, tools, and equipment; maintains tools and equipment in safe, clean, and proper working condition.
  • Operates a variety of equipment and machines, including hand and power tools, to perform repair and maintenance work.
  • Purchases equipment and materials as necessary; operates light trucks to pick up and deliver equipment and supplies.
  • May transport trash and waste to disposal area.
  • Performs other duties required to maintain and operate commercial or industrial equipment and facilities.
  • Works using ladders and high lifts; may involve night or weekend work.
  • Updates completed maintenance tasks and inputs data into a computer maintenance management system.
  • Performs required administrative and documentation tasks.
  • Handles snow removal and other laborer duties as assigned.
  • Requires travel by aircraft up to 75% of the time, including some overnight travel.
  • Must adhere to strict safety policies and standards.
  • Other duties pertinent to the department or unit’s success may be assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Advanced electrical knowledge with at least 3 years of directly related work experience.
  • Valid Alaska Driver’s License with three (3) years of acceptable driving record to be eligible under company vehicle insurance policy.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

  • Work is both indoors and outdoors.
  • Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; and vibration.
  • Must be able and willing to fly in small aircraft.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and may occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Skills

  • Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Math Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Reasoning Abilities: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations with limited standardization; interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
