Maintenance Technician 3rd Shift

Our client is seeking an experienced Maintenance Technician to install, maintain, and repair machinery, equipment, physical structures, and pipe and electrical systems in a plastics manufacturing facility. This role supports the automotive industry through highly technical research and development, offering full-service support from design concepts to specialized extrusion and compression technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain rigid safety standards as it relates to plant operation.
  • Collaborate on projects with all other plant departments.
  • Perform work on equipment and projects as assigned in a reasonable and timely fashion.
  • Keep work area, tools, and maintenance supplies clean and organized.
  • Replace lamps and maintain bathroom facilities.
  • Keep parking lot and walkway clean and clear of debris.
  • Maintain all equipment to top-level working conditions.
  • Order and follow up on repair parts to maintain inventory levels.
  • Complete required paperwork, including PM documents and preventative maintenance records.
  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly preventative maintenance.
  • Understand the sequence of operation on presses and recommend machine repairs.
  • Issue work orders and follow up on repairs.
  • Troubleshoot plastic injection molding machines and support equipment such as granulators, thermolators, material dryers, and DMEs.
  • Troubleshoot secondary and auxiliary equipment, replacing sensors as needed.
  • Disassemble, measure, and install barrels, screws, tip assemblies, heater bands, and complete injection units.
  • Determine priority of daily work as it occurs.
  • Perform all work necessary for the safe and efficient operation of the plant.
  • Collaborate with others to complete tasks.
  • Stay after scheduled work hours or come in on a 24-hour call-in basis.
  • Report and/or initiate corrective action for any unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Continue training as required.
  • Maintain safe driving speeds and awareness as a hi-lo driver, stopping at all cross aisles.
  • Provide on-the-job training (OJT) to personnel where appropriate.
  • Function as a member of the environmental response action team, fire brigade, and first responder with specialized training.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. High school diploma preferred.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups or managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet and data analysis, Windows, and PLC programming software.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with abstract and concrete variables.
  • Industrial maintenance certification, Hi-Lo license, and crane and rigging training required.
  • Safety-conscious with the ability to use/wear all PPE including hard hats.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints, pneumatic, and hydraulic schematics, as well as electrical prints.
  • Experience troubleshooting hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical problems.
  • Self-motivated and available on call 24 hours a day.
  • Knowledge of lock out tag out procedures.
  • Experience with basic electricity, electrical distribution, electrical control, PLCs, digital electronics, hydraulics (including proportional and servo hydraulics), and pneumatic control.
  • Equipment-specific training and experience with measuring and testing equipment.
  • Building maintenance experience.

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, talk, or hear.
  • Frequently required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Occasionally required to sit, taste, and smell.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

Working Conditions

  • Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and risk of electrical shock.
  • Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, high or precarious places, toxic or caustic chemicals, outside weather conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, explosives, and vibration.
  • Noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
